Re: Skoda plans to manufacture electric cars in India

Spotted the Enyaq today in Chakala (Andheri East) close to Bisleri building. Initially I mistook it for Kodiaq, then noticed its a bit different and read the name.

I took a picture but could not get a clear shot as I was driving and it was raining as well.

Surprisingly Skoda is not camouflaging this vehicle.

Re: Skoda plans to manufacture electric cars in India

I saw a white one in Pimpri today - looks smashing like a Skoda does! Seemed more like a crossover - taller than a Slavia yet smaller than a Kodiaq.

Was a longish car - does that come with 7 seats?

Re: Skoda plans to manufacture electric cars in India

Isnn't ID.4 facing a lot of hardware AND software gremlins? Hope this does not end up being a DQ200 saga all over again.

If there are any experts who can explain the differences, I am sure it will benefit all of us.

Somehow looks so ordinary in these darker colours yet stunning in red or white. Classic Skoda lines but relatively primitive overall appearance next to a EV6 or Ioniq 5.

Sincerely hope they price it right. If the rumours of 60 Lakhs are to be believed - this product will be dead on arrival - hence squashing all the hopes of Skoda bringing in their other cars in the country.

If Kia can sell around 80 units of 60 lakhs EV6 , then ENYAQ at same price is a cake walk for Skoda if the dealers do it right. Its a very practical and efficient EV.

Many car manufacturers follow the top down method for EVs, they bring in high price cars which are often SKD, CKD or even CBU and test the waters before deciding on future models. If Skoda doesn't plan to bring in more EVs to India in the future then they might as well exit India.

Re: Skoda plans to manufacture electric cars in India

A strange thing I read about the Enyaq, it comes with rear drum brakes and the justification is that with re-generative braking setup, the disks are not of much use. Strange at this price point if you ask me, especially when all its peers. One with discs for similar setup.

The pricing of the Ioniq 5 changes things drastically. Even EV6 sales are going to be heavily impacted now.

Disk vs drum for rear brakes is quite overblown. The major advantages of disc brakes is faster heat dissipation and braking power. But the fact is rear brakes are responsible only for 30% of braking because during braking there is a weight transfer to the front of the car needing the front brakes to work harder than the rear.

Thus, even for spirited driving in most family cars, drum brakes are more than sufficient.

So for all practical purposes, if the car stops quickly, drum brakes are ok and is not a disadvantage by any means.

Skoda Enyaq iV electric SUV to be launched by March 2024

The Skoda Enyaq iV will be the brand's first all-electric model in India. The electric SUV is likely to be launched by March 2024.

Skoda plans to manufacture electric cars in India-enyaq.jpg

According to Petr Solc, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, the carmaker will bring the Enyaq iV to India in the current fiscal year to test the market. If the market is positive, Skoda will bring more EV models in the future.

The Skoda Enyaq iV is based on the MEB platform. The electric SUV is expected to come with a 77 kWh battery pack paired with dual electric motors, producing a combined output of 265 BHP. It is said to offer a maximum range of 513 km (WLTP cycle). Skoda might also bring the lower-spec 2WD variant to India.

In India, Skoda could offer the Enyaq iV in Lounge trim. This variant comes with Skoda's Anodised Cross Decor, 19-inch Proteus alloy wheels, a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leather and microfibre fabric upholstery with contrast stitching.

Re: Skoda plans to manufacture electric cars in India

Oh man that launch feels ages away. Definitely the more appealing looking vehicle compared to its VW ID4 cousin. However can't see this being cheaper than the Kia EV6 price positioning wise which is a shame. I feel like a 50L ballpark and it becomes a very compelling option.
