London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) is partnering with Exclusive Motors Pvt. Ltd. to launch the TX electric car in India.



The LEVC is a subsidiary of China-based Geely. The TX was designed to comply with London's Taxi Private Hire regulations, which explains its London taxi-inspired design.



The car is based on a bonded aluminium chassis and is powered by a full-electric hybrid powertrain. It uses a Volvo-sourced petrol engine and a 33 kWh battery pack that powers a 148 BHP electric motor.



LEVC claims that the TX can cover 101 km on a single charge, with a flexible range of over 510 km. The car runs in full-electric mode, and the petrol engine takes over when the battery runs out.

Very practical vehicle with tons of interior space and an amazing turning radius.

This would be a perfect car for India's driver driven crowd. 100km covers the range of most days and if required, an efficient petrol can supplement range.

This is one I'd love to see launched here.

Until now, most of the EVs introduced in India was more as a secondary vehicle. If this is priced right, this could be the first EV that could serve as the only car. Ignore its non-conventional British look, the proportions and hybrid model will appeal to many. And it would fit perfectly in the small single carriageway roads we have in the country.

Just checked it's specs and the wiki page says it achieves 36.7 mpg when run on petrol which is a little over 15kmpl. Not that great imo.

Yes, because the car is lugging around the weight of a battery and motor too. Not only do you get worse mileage, but also more pollution.

The PHEV category of vehicles is most efficient when running in combined mode, ie engine+motor.

In pure electric, the range is limited, and pure gas, mpg is shoddy, and pollution is worse than operating a car of similar engine specs and dimensions but without weight of electric powertrain.

People say it’s the perfect stopgap, and they could “use electric mode for city and petrol mode for highway”. It would be convenient, but not ideal.

In pure petrol mode, it’s creating more pollution than it would in combined mode. So it kind of defeats purpose of being a “green vehicle with best of both worlds”.

It has been widely documented too, that users often forgot and comfortably went about their day in PHEVs without charging — which isn’t all that beneficial.

After all, the vehicle still needs same maintenance and normal vehicle, has a battery, (pollution from battery production), uses fuel, (pollution from oil refining pollution), and ultimately is not even driven in electric or combined mode as per surveys, (using the inefficient engine built to charge batteries, to run the car, meaning even more pollution than normal car which doesn’t have the electric powertrain from a PHEV)

Having ridden in them countless times, I can definitely say these are some of the most robust vehicles out there. However the interior appointments definitely need to be changed to appeal to consumers, I'm not sure if it will retain the backward facing seats as well.
