The Nexon & the Tigor is indeed aiming to that group. Let us seriously hope in short term we have a Hyundai hatch around the Tigor price range or below.

Many people waited in vain for the Altroz EV after its unveil in Jan 2020. For whatever reason Tata thought it would be a good idea to unveil it at the Auto Expo then decided to completely put a moritorium on that project.

First visuals of Kia EV6 in India. Seems like a fully loaded 77kWh battery variant with 320bhp and AWD.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

Kia EV6/Hyundai ioniq both seem to be a runaway success in Europe and NA. If Hyundai decides to go the CKD route as reported, i guess the ioniq 5 will still be well over 30 lakhs. They need a India specific EV to compete with Tata.

I really hoped that this would breathe back life into sub 50 lac segment and replace the 330i as value enthusiast car proposition.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

A lot would depend on its price, but I wouldn't write it off at close to 50 lakhs. If I read right, this should be about 320 BHP, AWD, doing 0-60 MPH in about 4.5 seconds. That's mighty impressive, even if the range (of about 300-ish KMS when you're on it) is nothing to write home about. The 330i won't be even remotely close to this performance wise (not much else can from this segment, let's be honest). The 340i will best it, but that's about 20 lakhs more. It's an interesting proposition for sure. Can't wait to see this space heat up.

Here's Car and Driver's review of (what I think is) the version that's coming to India.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

Apparently, Kia only plans to sell 100 units of EV6 in India. Looks like Kia is just using this as a marketing tool just like Hyundai did with Kona EV.

https://auto.economictimes.indiatime...ay-26/90974227

This is the issue with most of the traditional brand EV roadmaps. They just want to sell ICEs as long as possible. Hyundai and Kia have had BEVs in their lineup for many years, but they choose to limit their production. Despite having multiple 3 major battery companies from Korea with which they can partner to rapidly increase the EV production, they just don't bother.Any company that does not bring their global EV models at least in CKD form is just doing the brand building and marketing exercise.

Luckily, the companies like Tata are developing multiple models for the Indian market and also ramping up production capcities.

This initial lot of EV6s may just about be sufficient till the end of the year, especially since the car won’t be sold pan-India, but only through a single dealer in each of the five metro cities.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

The limited allocation could be to just test the waters. I am hoping that Kia will be quick to understand the market feedback and allocate more units. The performance on this one is on par with the BMW M series. So if the on-road price is comparable to the normal 3 series top-end, that 100 units will get sold out in no time.
