Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

Mat Watson from Car-Wow has called it "probably" the best electric car in the world! With Tesla nowhere in sight, looks like EV6 would really be the best electric car in India. If it is priced reasonably, I am all in for it.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

I am definitely in the marker for an EV in the coming year or so, so this is definitely welcome news for us.

Whilst I am OK spending around 30L for a good EV I am just wondering what would be the re-sale value compared to traditional cars? will these be like our smart-phones a depreciation disaster.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

Great. This is very tempting. Kia seems to be more aggressive than Hyundai these days. There are many like me who don't consider EVs because we are not comfortable with the current options. MG has the Chinese stigma associated with it. Kona never really recovered from the battery gate and Tata will always have the baggage of quality control issues. This will change that scenario. Once Ioniq 5 also comes to India, there will be enough competition to make people think seriously about EVs.

I really hope it is under 70L as it will be a new contender in a space without rivals, except the Mini SE, then again it has a very short range.

I can't think of anybody who will buy a Kia for 70 plus lakhs, no matter how tempting it is. The environment conscious will be better off with a Camry.

Its a vastly superior and thoroughly modern car compared to Camry. Camry Hybrid starts around $27,000 in the US and Kia EV6 at around $41,000 and is about 50% more expensive. It's in the same price range as a Q5 or X3, which sells for Rs. 60-65 lakhs ex-showroom in India. So there is that.

Also as an owner of 2021 Tesla Model Y, who has driven both, I can tell you that Kia EV6 is better than Model Y in "ALL" aspects (except for the supercharger network).

However, the taxes in India will kill it as it will be impossible to sell this at the international prices and at Rs. 70 lakhs it will become a fancy premium car that few can afford, let alone buy.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

30-40L? This will be totally unaffordable to majority of the market. Not even if it gives the claimed 700 km range or even more. This is where I think CNG and alternate fuels will score. Unless EV companies price the product at around 15 L it is not a mass market car. I think Maruti is taking a wait and see approach and will introduce affordable EVs that will disrupt the space.

Genuine curiosity, why is there a lack of EV hatchbacks in India? Wouldn't that be the best market? City commuters needing a low cost ride? Reduces the need for huge range and a dependency on an external charging network.

Re: Hyundai & Kia to introduce 6 electric cars by 2024

I think EV6 will be directly aimed at the mid-level germans. The german trio is able to command the brand value only because they offer higher performance than the cars of their size. EV6 will change that situation. It will cost on the same lines as the mid-level germans and will beat them in both features and performance. That is how Tesla converted so many die-hard BMW fans to EV fanatics.

Why don’t you consider the MG ZS? It has a range of 450kms (around 400 real life) and is 27 lakhs on road. I have one myself and it is a great vehicle. There is no reason for anyone to buy a petrol vehicle now unless they travel to very remote areas.

Current range of 300 to 400kms is more than enough. Is it so hard to stop once during your 10 hour, 600kms trip? Don’t you need to eat lunch or rest a bit?

An i20-like EV even if it has lower range would be killer for city commuting. I too wonder why this segment is dead.

I can tell you with some certainty based on confidential information available to me that it will be priced just under 50 lakhs.

Vow, kind of hard to believe. If it happens, what we get is an RWD car that costs similar to the 3 series but is faster, larger, and has more features. And it will be cheaper to run as well. Interesting times ahead.

Wow that seems too good to be true! Hopefully they launch and are able to deliver vehicles without the 6-8 month waiting time MG and everyone else is currently citing. I can see myself getting the Kia if it's priced that well.
