re: The Tata Nexon EV Max, launched at Rs. 17.74 lakh (pg 18)

Looks like it's indeed the long range version of Nexon EV in coupe disguise, albeit feels heavily redesigned. Indeed TML is making the right moves and strengthening their market position.

Looks like Tata motors apart from the 6th April event for new electric suv concept ,have some important announcements coming up on 20th and 28th April.

One of these dates may see the launch of the upgraded Nexon EV.

Spotted this Nexon today in front Bosch office Bangalore. Not sure what’s been tested.

If the rumoured price increase of Rs. 3 to 4 lakhs were to be true, it would be placed dangerously close to MG ZS EV excite version. Tricky situation for Tata Motors.

I doubt the price will increase the cost by 3lakh, for just a 10kwh bump in capacity.
In India for the average joe, the price of 1kwh lifpo4 battery is about 16k without BMS and battery enclosure.
So for 10kwh it will be 1.6lakh increase. Tata may be using some better known cells, so the price may be higher but then again they also buy in bulk.

Hope this is the Nexon EV "v2" which fixes the serious issues plaguing the Nexon EV, following the Tata tradition.

The D to N issue, and issues with charging which users have reported are serious ones. Till these are sorted out, the Nexon can't be used anywhere outside cities.

While I have booked the ZS EV, I will happily switch over to the Nexon EV if these issues are sorted out.

It’s also expected that the On board charger (the AC “charging cable” is just a box with fuse and cable with adaptor, the car transforms AC power to DC within the vehicle) is being upgraded to 6kW to accommodate the larger capacity without affecting AC charging times.

Possibly other upgrades too, like the much missed Cruise Control and RegenSelector. These were the 2-3 changes being rumoured in the past. I assume it’s not just the capacity which is increasing, the charger specs and other misc features might also be present.

That would explain some costs. The issue won’t be the lack of features, it would be the lack of size, because it’s the mentality that one can get a “bigger” car for same price, we heard that countless times from our relatives and colleagues at mom’s work for our Nexon EV.

re: The Tata Nexon EV Max, launched at Rs. 17.74 lakh (pg 18)

Does anyone know if TATA has plans for a dual-motor version of Nexon?

I recently witnessed a Nexon EV struggling to climb a steep entry into a resort at Kothagiri.

I think both the product and the company are targeting the more discerning tech savvy customer for EVs. It would be tough expecting say a generic maruti buyer to understand the EV shift. This will take time and higher fuel prices!

In the long run it would boil down to cost benefits and confidence from long term perspective. Buyers would seek clear answers regarding resale value, cost of battery pack replacement after 8-9 years etc.

Any EV would need to balance out the extra cost (compared to ICE) within 50k kms or so.

re: The Tata Nexon EV Max, launched at Rs. 17.74 lakh (pg 18)

Going a size bigger will give Tata the pricing power it needs.

At its current sub 4m size, Nexon EV is competing with cars which fall in the 28-31% GST slab. Its own 5% slab for EVs would give it an advantage.

But this GST advantage will be much bigger if it goes a size bigger and competes with cars in the 43-50% GST slabs for cars more than 4m in length.

Sub 4m EVs might be cheaper on an absolute basis but larger EVs will be cheaper as compared to their immediate competition. That will probably help them achieve a higher percentage of the total sales in the more expensive segments.
