Re: Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!

Will this even be steerable with the rocket booster enabled? The rocket would simply push the car rather than drive the wheels.

Re: Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!

OMG, this is insane.

2.49G(acceleration of 24.38m/s2 to reach 60miles per hour in 1.1 seconds), the peak force can be even higher.

Last edited by ecenandu : 23rd May 2021 at 14:07. Reason: Small mistake with earlier calculation, took 100miles per hour instead of 60

Re: Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!

Why would anyone want to accelerate so quickly? 0-100 in 1.1 seconds, I find the 4.5 or even 5.5 seconds acceleration very quick, and if the claims are correct the roadster can reach 250 kph in that much time.
That is even before we consider the fact that they have been talking about the roadster since 2017 and we have not yet seen a properly driving car.
I think Tesla is giving fake numbers about a non-existing car. Without rocket propulsion this will be impossible.
Sorry Tesla Fanboys if you feel offended, this is just my view and is not intended to offend anyone or their own opinions.

People who follow Musk closely will know this! (I am a fan boy)

I think he has found a new substance which he is not able to manage well.

Re: Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!

I must admit, I love the looks of the car. A huge step up from the original that Tesla called the Dark Star.

As for the mind bending acceleration, I might just skip this one. Don't think my body can cope with the acceleration and braking ability of anything more than a 350 horse power Audi S5.

Re: Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!

Can I call bull on this?

I don't think the Roadster will do that time. Anyone remember the bulletproof glass on the CyberTruck?
So yeah we should take this claim with a bit of salt.

Is 1.1secs achievable? Probably yes, in an ideal situation. Not so much in the real world.
What that ideal situation will look like, no one knows.

Just more of the PR that Musk indulges in every day. Such a product isn't practical and has no real world relevance.

Meanwhile, the folks at Bugatti: How soon can we buy Tesla?

Re: Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!

"All aboard the hype train" - This comes to mind when I read this thread. Elon musk has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately and this looks like another one. Thrusters to road cars seems unrealistic and impractical. I hope this is some sort of a marketing ploy or one of those easter egg dropped in random places to create hype.

The plaque photo posted by OP has the answer :

SpaceX package would outfit the Roadster with cold air rocket thrusters positioned at the rear.

He's an engineer who enjoys building toys for his satisfaction and to make fun; and in this process, sometimes ends up making products for average joe.

Few noteable fun stuff :

In my and my fellow engineer friends' point of view : Most engineers, at heart, want to indulge in insane stuff. But with our daily life chores taking priority, we do the regular 'sane' stuff. Elon is able to live to his heart's content, and things haven't been easy for him. That's the reason we admire him.

Thanks for sharing this, it is an excellent line of argument. I like how he shared a section (attached in the picture for easy reference) about factors that are in favour and not in favour of his theory.

Tesla Roadster capable of 0-100 km/h in 1.1 seconds!-physics.jpg

Although I agree with his conclusion, there is one more factor consider: Vehicle tyres are asymmetric, and the directions of frictional force on the tyre during acceleration & braking is the opposite.

During acceleration, the ground pushes the driven tyre forward, and during braking, the ground pushes all four tyres backwards. The geometry of the tread could perhaps favour one of the two situations.

Still, I think this will not make a difference to his conclusion, as tyre manufacturers also heavily optimize for braking.

On a side note, his video also makes it easy to understand that a 2WD car can only reach a certain barrier of acceleration, no matter how powerful the engine. To cross this acceleration barrier, a switch to a 4WD drivetrain is necessary.

Tesla Roadster update, should ship in 2023.

Elon Musk mentioned 2022 as a new target early this year, but it appears even Tesla isn't immune to the COVID pandemic, semiconductor shortage.
