Honda has unveiled its e: prototype SUV concept at the ongoing 2021 Shanghai Auto Expo. The Honda SUV e: prototype concept previews the direction the brand will be taking with its future products.



The company announced that it will be introducing 10 Honda brand EVs in the next five years. The first of these models is scheduled to go on sale in China by mid-2022.

The e: prototype concept also debuted the third-generation Honda Connect technology. This feature offers users a number of functions such as connectivity, over-the-air updates, voice-recognition interface, vehicle operation via a smartphone link and other navigation and entertainment features.

Alongside this, Honda also showcased its next-generation omnidirectional ADAS (advanced safety and driver assistance).

Looks like its based on the Honda HRV 2021-2022 model. Exciting. I hope Honda India decides to bring this to India. It would sell, and once again solidify the Honda image in India. Fingers crossed that theyre thinking and not letting such opportunities go away. Also it seems Honda is considering China a bigger market than the USA, up till now they always thought of the USA their primary market outside of Japan but now it seems to be China.

The car looks really good and balanced, and would be a nice addition to their Lineup if Honda decides to bring this to our shores. The car no doubt, is heavily inspired by the HRV and will be interesting to see what they have planned for the interiors. The 2021 Shanghai auto show has so far drawn a lot of electric car debuts like the Toyota bZ4X, Huawei Seres SF5 electric SUV etc.

Honda has really truly caught napping in the electric car space. In fact, just two years back the CEO remarked "Are there really customers who truly want them?".

It is time for them to double down on product development - and the announcement of 10 EVs in China over the next 5 years is a good start.

Honda as a motor company has been dropping the ball globally. Be it in motorsport (take the debacle of their F1 return overall), their diminishing reputation for vehicles in global markets and not just India, the lack of wow factor in their products (type R models don't generate the same response anymore; the NSX revival had an extremely tepid response for such a cult brand, and the very hit and miss styling of recent years) - yeah, it's a company that really needs to find it's mojo again.

In spite of that, in the Honda e we have an inkling of what this company is capable of if they channel their best instincts but again it's a compromised product (that price and the paltry range). Still, I can't help but lust after the Honda e. If they brought it to India I can easily see mom and I lobbying dad to try and get one as a city runabout.

Clean and nice looking car, completely opposite to the other Japanese makers recently unveiled electric prototype which has a hundred bends and lines.

Which design ages well, one with more angles, curves and lines or the one which has less?

Better late than never is what I can say! Good to see Honda electric cars and more than that, a return to nicer clean styling. I hope this denotes the design direction of their EVs as I hate the quirky new Hondas they sell in India with way too many cuts, creases & "busy" faces. Case in point:



Honda completely lost the technological edge they once had. Hope the brand invests heavily in its electric powertrains to offer something others don't. Could fun-to-drive be a differentiator? I surely think so. Leave the appliance experiences to Toyota and gang.

Honda will unveil the production version model of the e: prototype at Wuhan Motor Show 2021.



The all-electric SUV will go on sale in China by 2022. It will be manufactured at the brand's Dongfeng facility.

2022 Honda HR-V Electric version makes early debut in China.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology revealed images of the production model.

According to the documentation provided on the MIIT website, the Honda e:NS1 features an electric motor producing 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts), enough for a top speed of 93 mph (150 km/h). It gets the necessary juice from a 68.8-kWh battery pack in a vehicle that rides on 18-inch wheels and weighs a rather substantial 4,647 pounds (2,108 kilograms).
