Huawei, the Chinese smartphone maker has showcased its first car, the Seres SF5 extended-range electric SUV at the ongoing 2021 Shanghai Auto Show.

The new electric SUV has been launched in China under the 'Seres' brand. The new Seres SF5 will retail at Huawei flagship stores across China from April 21, 2021.



The new Huawei Seres SF5 SUV is said to be offered in both 2WD and 4WD options, at a starting price of CNY 216,800 (equivalent to Rs 25.20 lakh), exclusive of taxes.

The new Seres SF5 comes equipped with a 'three-in-one' electric drive system, called Huawei OneDrive. This system is claimed to offer world-class performance while also offering a solution to the range anxiety of customers.

While the exact technical details are yet to be revealed, the Huawei Seres SF5 is said to come with multiple electric motors and offers 180 km of max range in pure-electric mode.

The SF5 is also said to feature an ICE unit, which acts only as a generator, increasing the range to 1000 km when necessary. Huawei also claims that the SF5 SUV is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 4.68 seconds.

In terms of features, the Seres SF5 e-SUV is said to come with Huawei HiCar, which allows users to seamlessly transition from their smartphones to the vehicles central control panel. HiCar also offers remote access to the car's function.

The Seres SF5 is also said to come with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) charge modes. A few other features also include L2+ level automatic assisted driving, adaptive cruise control, traffic congestion assistance, front seats with ventilation, heating and massage functions, smart welcome and many more.

Wow, this is interesting news. While our dear Apple has just started to call for Vendors for the electric car, Huawei has launched one already.

Am a big Huawei/Honor fan, be it any product from them & I own a few of them.

Eagerly waiting for the US to ban this car too.

I guess this is more of a hybrid, than an electric SUV.

180kms range in pure EV mode and the claimed 1000 kms is in combination with the internal combustion engine? That doesn't sound like a solution to range-anxiety of electric cars!

VW Group Might Purchase Huawei’s Autonomous Vehicle Unit.

Details of the move remain limited but it is reported that leaders from the VW Group have been negotiating a deal with Huawei for several months.

While China’s Huawei hasn’t made as much noise about its developments in the autonomous vehicle space as some other technology companies and car manufacturers, it is aiming to develop Level 5 autonomy in passenger vehicles by 2025. Huawei has been diversifying its business after U.S. sanctions were introduced under the Trump administration. In September, the company unveiled what it said was the automotive industry’s first Level ‘3.5’ system.
