Toyota has released a teaser for its upcoming electric SUV. Alongside the teaser image, the company has also confirmed that the new EV will be globally unveiled on April 19, 2021.
The new fully electric SUV from Toyota is said to be underpinned by the brand’s newest e-TNGA platform.
The upcoming EV could also be a part of Toyota’s ‘Beyond Zero’ sub-brand of fully electric models. The models under this are also expected to get an exclusive blue badging, signalling its electric nature.
The concept version of the upcoming Toyota electric SUV is expected to be showcased at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Expo, scheduled to take place later this month.

More details on the e-TNGA platform that Toyota has co-developed with Subaru.
The SUV will be the first of six BEVs planned to use the new e-TNGA platform.
This architecture is designed to be highly adaptable and can be used for vehicles of differing length and wheelbase. It can also be used for front, rear and four wheel drive powertrains by allowing for motors across both axles, and with a wide range of battery capacities.
Toyota’s European product development boss, Andrea Carlucci, said the new car will be very European in the DNA and design. He explained that a RAV4-sized SUV was chosen for Toyota’s first BEV because the car will be a global model, and it offers the best balance to put together the needs of all regions.
Toyota aims to sell 5.5 million electrified cars per year by 2025.

Crikey, the chin on that thing. I mean I know modern crash restrictions mean designers and engineers hands are forced on this but that's about as bluff a cliff face as you can imagine on the front of a car not bearing the Spirit of Ecstasy.
Codeveloped with Subaru? Does this mean this might underpin an Outback replacement or perhaps a sibling in the Subaru stable?
Expect this SUV to front the Toyota charge in the American market, especially if priced sensibly and coupled with decent range. Do Toyota qualify for the federal green car credits because that would really help them shift a few of these there.

Welcome move from the stubborn Toyota, who doesn't want to go full electric route, all the way. But the 'blue badging' theme is beyond my imagination:Frustrati. May be Toyota hired someone from BMW?

Toyota is the one that started this Blue Badging trend with their Hybrid Vehicles. Their hybrids have a faint and in some cases significant Blue Halo effect inside the Toyota badge

Oh my, that's very origami-esque the sheet metal. Also what on earth is happening with those wheel arches?!

I really like this sharp styling. Always liked the RAV4 design. Very close to that.
The wheel arches are quite similar in shape to Lexus SUVs with the exception of black cladding on the arch in lexus cars.
They have lost this market in what’s otherwise is there largest Market- USA. Tesla has created a network like no other and a majority of people buying an electric vehicles, want more, not just an electric vehicle but also features that helps in autonomous driving and the ease/ availability of charging networks.
Only a small percentage of people are going to consider this over an established player like Tesla in North American market. A lower pricing point may get them an entry but knowing how Toyota operates, they are not going to sacrifice profits.
Toyota has unveiled its all-new electric SUV concept, the bZ4X. The new battery electric vehicle (BEV) from Toyota has been developed in partnership with Subaru.
The new bZ4X concept will be the first model to be part of Toyota’s new bZ (Beyond Zero) series, consisting exclusively of electric vehicles. Toyota has confirmed that its new bZ series will have seven models in its lineup by 2025.
The new Toyota electric SUV also debuts the brand’s new e-TNGA platform developed exclusively for battery electric vehicles (BEV). The use of a BEV-specific platform allows the models to have a long wheelbase and a short overhang, resulting in extended cabin space.
The Toyota bZ4X concept features an extremely unique design, both inside and out. Some of the key design features include the sleek LED headlamps upfront, front bumper with an air intake at the bottom and vents on the side, channelling the air towards the wheels, squarish wheel arches and LED taillights at the back connected by a single LED strip.
Inside, the bZ4X concept features a uniquely styled steering wheel, a low positioned digital instrument cluster allowing for better visibility, a large touchscreen infotainment head unit and plenty others.
Toyota is yet to announce the technical details of its electric SUV. However, Toyota has confirmed that the bZ4X will come with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, using the expertise of Subaru.
The Toyota bZ4X electric SUV will be manufactured in Japan and China. The company is expected to unveil the final production-spec version of the electric SUV by late-2021 or early next year. The start of worldwide sales for the bZ4X is slated for mid-2022.

This is good news. B4Zx is coming in a very popular segment and competes directly with extremely popular RAV4. The biggest news is Toyota is planning to launch 15 BEVs including 7 BZ branded BEVs. With so many models, they will cover most of the segments. The question now is whether they intend for BEVs to be volume models or niche like RAV4 plug-in hybrid model with limited production.
