Kia EV6 sold out in hours in US, the limited run of 1,500 First Edition Kia EV6s have been fully reserved the day Kia opened bookings.



Customers who booked the new Kia EV6 were offered with three choices to pick from among the free takeaways. These included an at-home vehicle charger, a 1000 kWh of charging credits, or an Apple Watch.

According to the carmaker, there was barely any takers for the Apple Watch as more than 81% customers opted for the at home charging unit.

The Sport mode on the Kia EV6 stiffens the steering up a bit and also adds a bit of a sporty sound to go with the performance of the crossover

The EV6 is the brand’s first dedicated EV based on the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP platform which shares a lot with its sibling Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Kia EV6 Crashes, Bursts Into Flames In Budapest, Hungary.

The EV6 appears to have been driven into a concrete barrier and the impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.

Even though it has been stated many times that EVs are actually way less prone to catching fire than ICE or hybrid vehicles, that’s just based on statistics which can't really express nuance, but in the real world there are some instances when an EV is more dangerous in a crash

any impact that affects the battery pack or any of the vehicle’s high voltage cabling, which is what probably happened in this incident from Hungary.

The blaze does appear to be concentrated in the front of the Kia, but it’s not coming from underneath the vehicle, so maybe the battery had yet to catch fire or only the front modules had been affected when the video was shot

but bookings and deliveries will likely be further staggered between then and Diwali. The car we are likely to get at the start will be the range-topper. The GT-Line variant with dual e-AWD and the longer range 77.4 kWh battery. It has a 320 bhp output and offer 605 Nm of peak torque The e-AWD (all-wheel drive) means that this variant gets two motors - one at each axle. Driving range will be around 425 kms. The EV6 does get other variants which we may see launching later, if at all.

Kia is looking at following a similar phased rollout as Mercedes-Benz does in India with some of its flagship models. That is to say - the market launch happens with an all-in, fully loaded, top-spec, import variant. And then the company will subsequently move to CKD (completely knocked down) kits for locally assembling the EV6 (likely only in 2023).

Apologies I haven’t closely tracked this segment so may be missing something apparent.

If Kia launches the EV6 as a CBU and Hyundai brings its sister model Ioniq via local assembly, why would anyone pick the Kia? Wouldn’t it be dead on arrival just on the price difference, barring the six month head-start?

I was talking to one of the SAs in Kia and they seem to think this would be priced around 40 lakhs and should be available in July this year; however, he mentioned there is no official news yet and these are discussions heard, so he cannot guarantee the accuracy!

The design is striking though car is really a wagon, not a SUV or even a crossover. It basically is a sedan, but with a better trunk. It would be another hit from Kia in India if priced well.

Here’s hoping they go for ckd route and keep prices competitive. We are in dire need to good ev’s between 30 lakhs - 1cr.

If priced right this will persuade many buyers of germans.
