Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

IMO, time will tell !!

If they're able to sell more vehicles, turn back into profitability, then big deal if a few 'old men' dont like it.

On a lighter note, here's how the next iteration of ads can say:
You can now get interiors in all the colours being worn by the models in the ad. Essentially, no need be same as everyone else - get your own custom interior!! (Like Rolls or Ferrari).
And the new logo is for this 'custom build' division.

Then another guys who spins around says erase all that nonsense and get back to reality...
This can be inferred from Jaguar CCO (chief creative officer), Gerry McGovern that his team had “not been sniffing the white stuff” when they came up with it.

So, I feel their ad has been misunderstood ...
Guess you missed this post and the video. They knew and they have been smoking the woke stuff.

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

My theory is that this is a poison pill they are using to get their remaining dealers to leave. Jaguar has been trying to get out of their existing dealership commitments for a while and onboard and create a different dealership experience as super premium which the current dealers will drag down.

Hence all this nonsense to get the ones who didn't leave when they asked nicely to get disgruntled by poisoning what's left of the brand. I'm sure there will be a very swift reversion of things once the objectives are achieved

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

I will take the risk of defending the ad one more time. This time, the arguments are inspired by Rory Sutherland that I head from this

What else Jaguar should have done? Improve the very same things that are on the way to become irrelevant? Be an ‘also-ran’ among the other few brands that are trying to do the same? Keep in mind, they are not doing very well in terms or sales or market-share already. So maintaining status-quo is not an option.

Like Rory Sutherland implies in the above video, the previous era’s differentiators are not going to be relevant in the space of electric vehicles - performance is a given, reliability is mostly given, no engine or drivetrain to talk about…

In my opinion, they should do this only - take bold risks, re-boot the company, do “All in” , attract a new set of buyers, differentiate in those areas that are relevant in the future market, and try to take the ‘new’ breed of competition head-on.

I am going to be eager and waiting to see their new models, I will be cheering for them, and I hope they carve a new niche.

I am empathetic to brands that have to reinvent themselves due to changing times. But Jaguar didn't shoot themselves (several times by now) due to changing times - it was sheer arrogance to service, quality and support. I have heard crazy stories of part availability and reliability concerns (and not just in India btw). If they had an ounce of intelligence, they would have implemented greater reliability as their core focus. I completely lost it when they decided to abandon their traditional green color.

Anyway, this is the direction they take and only time will tell. For a brand of a hundred years or more to screw up on quality and reliability of what they know (ICE), betting on them for a futuristic complex EV would be a stretch, at least to me. Rarely have businesses succeeded when they pander to the niche (in this case, the woke community). In this case, they are taking a massive risk that could implode or explode them into some cult.

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

I used to drool over the jags of old, something about the car gave a sophisticated but roguish vibe. Now it seems like the coolest kid in college suddenly went from being the sports and gym boss to being a fat, bald and boring guy.
I'm not against electrics, but Jaguar seems to have lost the aura now, the rebranding doesn't excite and I'm not sure if the new electric jags will be any more reliable than the older ones, or do you still need a flat bed on speed dial if you own one.
On a lighter note, somebody please interview Jeremy Clarkson on this, with his love for jaaags and aversion for electrics, it will surely be one to watch!

The rebranding is weird but lets see the big picture when the model is revealed. I do think Jaguar have waited a bit too long.

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

It is too early to pass a judgement on this ad. You never know, how it may help the brand at some stage or the other. Mind you they are anyway doing something radical. They are stopping ICE cars altogether. I suspect that they must be having a strategy in this new ad….may be to appeal to a totally different set of people who are not currently associated with the brand at all.

Also Jaguar can take a risk because now they are part of the Land Rover family ….. they are pretty successful, with the waiting time for Defenders and Discovery Sport being 10 months and 4 months respectively.

By the way, someone discussed the root of the statement ‘Follow no one’. It was actually made by Mr Tata two decades back. That particular year his theme communication to the entire group was….”Don’t follow, Lead”

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

Sometimes, it's ok not to find 'the other side of the coin'.
If the ad failed to communicate to the masses what they really intended, and that too this miserably, then there isn't much on the other side.

Here folks like Honda India management has been tirelessly working for more than a decade to destroy their brand image, whereas this single ad did it instantaneously for the Jaguar.

Here is what all the fuss is about Jaguar. The authors sums it up perfectly! Any publicity is good publicity than no publicity. They have managed to create a stir in the market all over the social media that people have got the attention. Jaguar is coming live again!! And that is what Jaguar Land Rover needs to be sold in numbers again. They have done it to garner people's attention.

Re: Jaguar to become all-electric brand from 2025

Finally I think I understand what they are doing,

The company is shutting down JAGUAR and it's legacy,
And starting out a totally new brand - 'jaguar'
(they even have a sub-site totally different from current website)

Could've named it 'meow' though.

When the Jaguar comes home

I think we can all agree that a lot of us car enthusiasts who have been long time fans of Jaguar weren't exactly happy with the recent rebranding of the brand where it decided to pile up everything it had ever built and just set it ablaze.

I still remember Jeremy Clarkson explaining a Jaguar's charm on Top Gear with his famous quote "It's alright because he's got a JAAAAAAG". And the first time I had ever laid my eyes on an E-Type I was just simply in love. Such was the beauty and charm of a Jag (I'll refer to classic Jaguar as Jag and new Jaguar as Jaguar).

So as a long time fan of the brand I really wanted to visit a dealership and pay my respects to the cars they still had in the showroom and the lot, because it is the right thing to do, they just won't be there anymore someday. And Jaguar will never ever be able to revive itself to the point that it had. A Jag was known as a sort of sign that you are one proper villain behind the wheel. The new Jaguar will never be able to reach even close to that level with an EV only lineup.

But anyway to my surprise I got down from our apartment today morning to find out that a Jag XF had come to me to grace me with its glorious presence. This is obviously someone else's car and credit goes to them for keeping it so clean and original.

P.S. If this was your car and you recognise it, you were parked in a no parking zone but it's alright cause you have a Jaaaaaag
