Tesla is not interested in setting up a green field project in India. Contract Manufacturing is a likely possibility in the long run. Holds talks with automakers.

- Will go the CBU route in initial phase.

- Contract manufacturing talks with a Japanese and an Indian auto maker is underway.

Tesla has approached a Japanese automaker and an Indian carmaker to explore the possibility of utilising their spare capacity.

From what I've heard from somebody working on the launch, online bookings for Model Y will begin in May with deliveries starting 6 weeks after that. Pricing mentioned was in the 40+ lacs ballpark

40 lakhs will surely undercut it to it main rival the Sealion 7 starting @49. Can't wait for the Y. May suddenly feels so far away .

Tesla CEO Elon Musk to visit India later this year

American EV maker Tesla is gearing up to foray into the Indian market. Homologation testing of some cars is already underway, including the new Model Y, which was recently spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.



Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over telephone. He later announced his India visit, which is expected to happen by the end of this year.

Musk posted on X, saying, "It was an honour to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year!"

"Spoke to Elon Musk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year," the Prime Minister posted on X. "We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnership with the US in these domains."

Elon Musk is also looking to roll out his satcom venture, Starlink, in India. It is in the final phase of the government approval process.
