Re: Hyundai Kona EV owners face battery issues & breakdowns in India

Got an update from workshop last week saying the DTC error codes on my vehicle is not at all related to the Battery Module - unlike the other vehicles. Fingers crossed that this is some minor hardware fault that can be replaced & be done with.

Diagnostic report has been sent to Korea. Awaiting feedback from them on next steps / resolution.

Re: Hyundai Kona EV owners face battery issues & breakdowns in India

In general I am very sad reading problems faced by the OP and the comments. I have owned and lived with EVs for almost 3.5 years - my Mahindra E2O. I was hoping that when I finally decide to upgrade, new Electric vehicles like Kona would be a good option. Konas have been on sale for the longest and globally sold which gave confidence.
However the amount of trouble the owners here are going through is worrying.

Now from here it will completely depend on Hyundai India how smoothly Hyundai handle the issues and resolve the same. I feel every car will have issues but it all boils down to how well its handled and empathy shown for the customer.

Second point Kona being available for far longer in the market, I was hoping for a more reliable experience. Already it’s the other players in the Indian EV scene are fairly new and yet to prove their credence. Will be hooked on to this thread for some updates in future and hopefully some good news.

Hyundai decides to offer Kona users a free recharge coupon that expires in Jan. Very important to note when it expires.

Hyundai also sends me an email saying the parts to fix my current dead brick kona will arrive after the 3rd week of Jan.

What a lovely coincidence.

Cherry on top is them requesting photos of you and your family at the charging point. From my experience, refueling/recharging runs are rarely family affairs.

No such thing as bad publicity, I guess.

It will be interesting if Kona owners turn up at the charging stations without Kona cars and send the pictures with invisible Kona being charged there.

On a lighter note, this reminds me of the early days of e-commerce when I had ordered a phone from Flipkart which never turned up. I was asked to supply pictures as proof of their phone never reaching me... to which I sent a picture of the area near my house's gate where the packages are usually kept, followed by a few more ground shots around my home.

They did refund me the money though.

Spend 25 lakhs on a car and get this treatment- happens only in India. I still don't get how Hyundai allowed this to happen on their first electric model here. I really wish there was some transparency in their dealings.

Couple weak consumer protections laws with even weaker enforcement, coupled with total apathy from the decision makers who are in cahoots with the capitalists running their shop here.

Add to that a beleaguered justice system which makes the victim jump through a number of hoops, even the eye of a needle to get to something resembling justice. So much so, when we hear our friends/relatives have filed a case and won, we are more surprised they actually filed a case rather than they won because it just isn't worth the trouble.

It's just sad.

Happy New Year to everyone. And looks like it is a “happy” new year indeed. Got an update from workshop. Looks like my error is coming from the front wheel drive motor (essentially what IC vehicles calls as engine). The error is coming from within that motor and since it cannot be dismantled and worked up in the workshop, the entire motor is being replaced. They have already ordered the part and expect it to arrive in a few days time.

They further confirmed and reiterated once again that the error displayed on my vehicle is NOT related to battery unlike other vehicles.

At this point I’d say I’m pleased that atleast the source of the problem has been identified and we know what to do.

Good to hear this. Fully agree with you. The diagnosis is most of the job done, and am glad you're getting your Kona back soon.
Am really missing my Kona, and have another week or so for me to get her back.

Re: Hyundai Kona EV owners face battery issues & breakdowns in India

Been over a month now, the latest update is the battery is not yet shipped from Korea!!. Since it's a big battery only mode of transport is by sea and we don't have any ETA yet. This is super frustrating!

Re: Hyundai Kona EV owners face battery issues & breakdowns in India

Just received a call from Hyundai's regional lead. The battery and/or necessary components won`t arrive at least until the end of Feb`2021. Even now, they aren`t ready to commit to a date either. I have vehemently opposed to this delay and requested suitable compensation at the earliest.

On a totally separate topic, I found this app on the iOS App Store for finding EV charging stations around you. Seems to be really good, with what I have seen so far.

https://apps.apple.com/in/app/re-charge/id1088549964

Unfortunately, I do not know the google play store equivalent. Please search on play store and maybe you may find it.

Hope you all find this useful. Please share this with other EV owners in other forums as well.

It's there on play store as well. The app is from Plug in India YouTube channel. You can find community chargers as well, Tata also uses the same app data to find chargers on their website.
