The Jaguar J-Pace could be based on Jaguar Land Rover's MLA platform, which will be shared with the next-generation Jaguar XJ and Range Rover.

The MLA platform is designed to handle batteries with a capacity of up to 100 kWh. The report states that the J-Pace could offer a maximum range of 482 km on a single charge. Other details like the output of the electric motors are not yet known.

Re: Jaguar J-Pace Electric SUV to rival the Tesla Model X

The electric SUV space is really gathering pace now; the segments below are already getting packed with the likes of iX3, Mach E, and Model Y etc.
I believe the electric push will much faster in this space (compared to regular sedans and hatchbacks). With diesels vanishing fast, and heavy petrol SUVs prohibitive running cost, long range e-SUVs/Crossovers make perfect sense.

Man, that's an excellent point. Turbo-petrol luxury SUVs are prohibitively expensive to run for someone with a lot of running. Their FE is dismal. Electric power will solve that problem and because these cars are expensive to begin with, there is a lot of room (costing) to add the right EV hardware & capacity.

The day isn't too far when 500 km EVs will be commonplace. How much more range does one need?
