That's true, it's a part of the maturing process of any technology.

That said, I wonder if there are any public stats that can show how much is the incidence of such events with ICE engines.

Of course, electric cars are at an advantage here, since they're in smaller numbers. It would have to be normalized to per million. Another observation is that the average age of electric cars in the world today would almost certainly be lower than that of ICE cars, putting them at an advantage if we were to measure incidents per million.

What type of fast charging was employed is not clear. Fast charging generally means 1C charging station for 1 hr. It charges the battery at rated discharge.

If they had done some jugaad ways ( Chinese are more prone than us) at say 2C for 30mins without proper heat dissipation and poor quality cables, the result is what such headlines are made of.
