In another 5 - 10 years this technology will trickle down to "aam aadmi" cars and with that the ICE's will begin their slow death.

Interesting will be to see what the next generation of battery technology holds in store. The solid state batteries are showing a good promise.

Re: Lucid Air to have 832 km (517 miles) of range

. I hope these guys deliver on their promises.

I think EV range anxiety will soon become overrated. Sure, it was a talking point when even world-class EVs had just 100 - 150 km of driving range. But with Teslas now offering 500 - 600 km range, is it something to get anxious over anymore? Heck, so many mass market cars in India don't offer 600 km on a full tank of petrol (e.g. Honda Civic CVT).

There will come a point where we will stop talking about EV "range" and focus on other aspects of the car. Take digital cameras as an example = once, everyone asked "how many mega pixels is your camera?". Does anyone care anymore? Good cameras are a given today, and so will range be with EVs in 5 years.

Re: Lucid Air to have 832 km (517 miles) of range

2021 Lucid Air Dream Edition revealed.

Quote:
Lucid Air Battery & Charging
Lucid is particularly proud of its battery technology, and rightfully so. Lucid is the exclusive provider of battery technology for Formula E racing. Lucid engineered and manufactures the battery packs that all Formula E cars use. Additionally, Lucid also provides the battery management system for Formula E race cars.

The battery modules used in the Lucid Air are slightly different than those used for Formula E, as they are optimized for use in the Air, and Lucid's CEO Peter Rawlinson calls the two different modules "close cousins." There are 22 modules in the Air, each with slightly more than 5 kWh of energy storage. They add up to create the 113 kWh battery pack, which is considerably larger than the 100 kWh pack used by Tesla in the Model S.

The battery system is a 924-volt system, which is the highest voltage for any production EV battery pack. The large 113 kWh battery pack, combined with industry-leading efficiency, will allow the Lucid Air Grand Touring Edition to have an astonishing EPA range rating of 517 miles per charge.

However, having a super big battery can mean you're stuck waiting a long time for it to charge if the vehicle cannot charge at a high rate. Well, there shouldn't be much waiting for Lucid Air owners. That's because the Air can accept over 300 kW of power, surpassing the Porsche Taycan, which can accept up to 270 kW, and the Tesla Models 3 and Y, which can charge at rates up to 250 kW

This official launch film is close to 1.5 hours. But that is one automotive enthusiast's time well spent. I will follow up with some quirks and interesting aspects of this car when I get time to watch it fully, browse their website and write down my thoughts, during the weekend. Interesting piece of EV engineering. Watch the official launch film below:

Now this is competition to Tesla and it comes from the same sunny state of California. The proportions are absolutely gorgeous and interiors are just pure class. Apart from the vanity stuff what caught my eye were
"...Rawlinson explained that the Air's powertrain is actually 2.5 times smaller than the closest competitor" and
"Lucid's efficiency is so much better than any other EV, they have a 17% efficiency advantage". If this turns out to be true then this is frankly an EV revolution in the making. Can't wait. I am in love with the proportions and the looks of this car. Exciting times.

As it is, Teslas are far more efficient than all EVs by conventional car manufacturers. So if these claims are true and someone actually has made something significantly more efficient than the Tesla power train, it will be the death knell for the EV dreams of Mercedes and Co.

Re: Lucid Air to have 832 km (517 miles) of range

Man I hope they soon start deliveries. They keep giving out these numbers preiodically but no car in picture. They started builing the hype sometime in 2016 and till now no car.

In the mean time all companies that we lagging behind by almost a decade such as Hyundai, MG, NEO, Mercedes, Audi and other have launched multiple electric cars by now.

Tesla put the Model 3 on the road in early 2017, after that they have put in variations of Model 3, launched Model Y and displayed working models of the Roadster, two semi Trucks and then the Cyber truck and Lucid has still not started taking orders.

Lucid needs to put a car on the road soon, build confidence. They cant be just working on it all day long. Its such a capital intensive industry, wish they dont die before they put a car out.

Like they say, Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Re: Lucid Air to have 832 km (517 miles) of range

Hope this promise is real. If deliveries start by October it can be a real competitor of the Model S. A larger variety of electric cars in all segments is great, and this segment is the hottest of them all.
Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Tesla, Polestar (Volvo), BMW and Lucid all make $100,000+ electric cars.
These range figures are incredible and if they come to more affordable electric cars in the future, the Internal Combustion Engine will be deemed redundant. A range of over 800km will remove all worries of range anxiety, more people will buy electric which will help save the planet.

Very impressed with Lucid. Its not just the range, their efficiency apparently is better than Model S as well. That is no mean feat for a brand new company with its first product! I just cant stress how impressive this is.

Love the way it looks as well. Its a genuinely desirable car even though much more expensive compared to a Tesla. Even then I would still take it over whatever Germans have to offer and also the Tesla if I had the money.

Lucid cannot compete with Tesla at this moment, One of the major advantage with Tesla is Super charging network, auto pilot and software integration.

Tesla has proven record and brand value. I can sell my 30K driven Tesla in profit .

I know people who went with Ford Mach-E suffered, both software and third party charging is crappy. BlueCruise technology is hopeless .

Agree on it. Let's wait for real world ownership experiences.

I have high expectations on Rivian R1t as well.

Re: Lucid Air to have 832 km (517 miles) of range

Introduced two new access versions, Pure and Touring. The Pure variant is the cheapest in the range. It has a dual all-wheel drive motor of 480 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque, which needs fewer battery cells to be placed and thus frees up more space (18 modules instead of 22). The autonomy will be 660 kilometers and its base price is 90,000 dollars.

On the other hand, the Touring variant is a higher step but at the same time remains a lower one of the Dream Edition. Its engine provides 620 hp and 1000 Nm of torque and with AWD traction. The main difference is inside, having materials in nappa leather, recycled synthetic materials and wood. Its price is 107,000 dollars.
