It is said that the company wanted to start deliveries before the Lunar New Year, which begins on 25 January 2020. The company plans to increase production from the beginning of 2020.

Tesla used to import cars to China and faced high tariffs. The cars made in China will be sold in China and will not be exported to the US. At present, goods made in China and exported to the US face high tariffs, forcing manufacturers to move production out of China to the US.

Re: Tesla starts delivering China-made cars

Considering that most of the American Brands that much of the world reveres and lusts after, are actually selling products that are Made in China ore at least Assembled in China, I believe this posing in ref to these idiotic Trade Wars etc should be stopped.

I mean frankly the way the Western World is, no one there is going to sit and make these products there.

They just ain’t that hungry as the rest of us in China and India probably are...

Tesla says will start delivering China-made Model 3s to public on Jan. 7

Quote:
Tesla Inc will deliver its first China-made Model 3 sedans to the public on Jan. 7 at an event at its Shanghai plant, a representative for the firm told Reuters on Thursday.

The Shanghai plant is part of the Silicon Valley automaker's plans to bolster its presence in the world's biggest auto market and minimize the impact of the U.S.-China trade war.

Fifteen Tesla employees who had purchased the car were the first to take delivery on Monday after the first China-made vehicles rolled off the plant's production line in October.

The deliveries come a year after construction of Tesla's only plant outside the United States began. Production started in October with a target of 250,000 vehicles per year once the Model Y is added to the line up.

"As Model 3s roll off Tesla's Chinese manufacturing facility with local subsidies intact, we believe the U.S.-based focus will need to shift globally for the company," Canaccord Genuity analyst Jed Dorsheimer wrote in a note to clients.

China will be an important market for the company in 2020, said Dorsheimer, who raised his price target on Tesla to $515, the second-highest on Wall Street.

The Model 3 is priced at 355,800 yuan ($50,000) before subsidies. Tesla said previously that it wanted to start deliveries before the Chinese new year beginning Jan. 25.

Tesla's China general manager, Wang Hao, said the company plans to ramp up Model 3 deliveries in January.

Tesla executives also told reporters the plant had achieved a production target of 1,000 units per week, or around 280 cars a day, and that sales for the China-made sedan had so far been "very good".

Hao had said the company will double the number of service centers and fast charging stations in China in 2020.

Shares of Tesla, which is expected to report its fourth-quarter delivery numbers in the next few days, rose 1.1% to $422.88 in premarket trading.

The stock, which touched a record high of $435.31 last week, has had a strong run in recent months on the back of posting a rare profit in the latest quarter and news of China ramp up.

Tesla summoned by China regulators over quality, safety issues.

Quote:
Authorities including the State Administration for Market Regulation held talks with Tesla’s Beijing and Shanghai units after customers complained of problems including abnormal acceleration and battery fires, the market watchdog said in a statement Monday. Tesla was asked to improve internal management, comply with Chinese law and regulations and protect consumers’ rights.

A Tesla representative said the company accepted the government departments’ guidance, has reflected on shortcomings in its business processes and strengthened self-inspection and internal-management practices. The company issued a public apology to China’s state grid last week after a video purportedly showed one its staff telling a customer that an overload in the national grid was to blame for damaging their electric vehicle.

Re: Tesla starts delivering China-made cars

Elon Musk himself admitted that quality is one area where they need to improve.

Hope they sort out the issues since its not specific to China and have had issues/recalls in the US too for failing touch screens. Should be really bad for a car that has all settings on the screen Kind of single point of failure affecting too many things !

New Tesla plant to make Shanghai "World's Largest Vehicle Export Hub".

Tesla has confirmed plans to build a second Shanghai factory with an annual output of 450,000 vehicles.

Quote:
The company said it would build a new plant on nearby land in the same area, with an annual capacity of 450,000 cars when the first phase of construction is completed, including Model Y and Model 3 vehicles. As a result, Gigafactory Shanghai would become "the world's largest vehicle export hub."
While Tesla provided no timeline for the expansion, it's pretty clear that the automaker's capacity in Shanghai will grow to almost 1 million vehicles once completed.
