Volvo to unveil its BEV soon.

With the unveiling of the electric XC40 on October 16, Volvo will, for the first time ever, tap into the world of zero-emission cars.

Regardless of what drives a car forward, be it an electric machine or combustion engine, a Volvo must be safe. The fully electric XC40 will be one of the safest cars we have ever built

The fundamentals around safety are the same for this car as for any other Volvo. People are inside, and the car needs to be designed to be safe for them

In the event of an accident, occupants will be protected by the new safety structure developed by Volvo. The battery’s placement in the floor, surrounded by a safety cage that creates a built-in crumple zone around it, will ensure it remains intact. Furthermore, the auto brand has also integrated the electric powertrain into the body structure at the back, as it provides better distribution of collision forces away from the passenger compartment

This really sounds cool - a mid-sized electric car based on a proven successful design and married to Volvo's reputation for safety and reliability. I suppose like the ICE XC40 the back seat space will be poor. It would be an ideal vehicle to replace my XC60 and Honda Jazz together. Looking forward to this coming to India.

New all-electric Volvo XC40 teased ahead of launch.

Buyers will be offered a choice eight paint finishes, with each featuring a contrasting black roof as standard. Two unique alloy wheel designs will also be available in diameters of either 19 or 20 inches. The all-electric XC40’s design revisions continue in the SUV’s cabin with a new driver interface system and fresh carpets, made from recycled materials

Chassis revisions include a redesigned and reinforced front crash structure, which adds additional strength to compensate for the lack of a conventional engine. Volvo has also developed a unique aluminium safety cell for the passenger compartment and battery support, which creates an extra crumple zone around the battery pack.

Volvo has also reworked the all-electric XC40’s rear subframe and crash structure to make space for the electric motor. The battery pack’s placement in the floor of the vehicle has also lowered the XC40’s centre of gravity, which Volvo says will offer better protection against roll-overs.

Electric Volvo XC40 introduces new Android infotainment system with built-in Google technology.

Volvo Car Group is the first company to partner with Google on integrating an Android-powered infotainment system, with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store built-in. Both companies have been development partners in recent years.

The new system offers full integration of the Android Automotive operating system, Google's open source Android platform. The system offers real-time updates of services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and vehicle apps created by the global developer community.


The Electric XC40 is also the first Volvon to receive software and operating system updates "over-the air" *, placing Volvo Cars at the forefront of vehicle-connected services. Fully electric XC40 will continue to evolve and improve over time, rather than already reaching its peak when it leaves the factory.

Volvo unveiled the XC40 electric, its first full-electric vehicle under Volvo brand. Volvo also announced they will reduce the carbon footprint of production by 40% between now and 2025. They will release one full-electric variant each year and expect half of their sales to be full-electric by 2025.

Volvo boss Hakan Samuelsson revealed that the next 40-series model is coming in 2021.

“Next year there will be another 40-series Volvo, which will also be electric,” he said. “So we will have electric cars to support our ambition to sell half of our cars as all-electric five years from now.”

Volvo XC40 pure electric version with 400km range launched at Guangzhou Auto Show -China



















-XC40 RECHARGE will officially go on sale during the Guangzhou Auto Show, the car 0-100km / h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds, WLTP standard mileage is 400km .

-On the front and rear fenders of the car body, a charging port is added to suit fast charging and normal 220V charging.

- the car is equipped with a front and rear dual-motor system, with a comprehensive power of 408Ps (300kW) and a peak torque of 660 Nm.

-Under such power blessing, the 0-100km/h acceleration time of the car is only 4.9 seconds

- In terms of batteries, the new car is equipped with a 78kWh battery pack and has a cruising range of 400km under the WLTP standard.

Looks stunning! Was always a fan of the XC40, but an all electric version with 400+ horsepower seems unreal! I really wonder what the pricing must be like. Hope they don't go overboard.
