Good news. XUV300 looked like a car abruptly chopped (which it was, a chopped up Ssangyong Tivoli) The new car will have much better and usable boot.

This is a welcome move since the only significant drawback in this well-sorted car is that joke of a boot, which should improve with this change. That said, this will be a structural change and hence, the top-notch safety ratings that the XUV 3OO boasts of, will not apply to the eXUV 3OO. Hope Mahindra sorts this out prior to the launch.

With another upcoming launch (Citroen C3 based EV), competition seems to be heating up in this segment which has been dominated by Tata so far. Exciting times ahead in the EV space :thumbs up

Mahindra to launch electric XUV300 in January 2023.

- The unveiling is likely to be earlier, sometime in the second-half of this year, with the aim of a market launch by January 2023.

- The production version of the electric XUV300 could be renamed the XUV400.

- Mahindra has also confirmed that the electric version will be 4.2 metre long.

- Mahindra will use the body structure of the original SsangYong Tivoli on which the XUV300 is based to offer more boot space.

- The single motor which drives the front wheels will have a minimum output 150hp and will be fed by high-density NMC pouch cells.

Considering all the recent inflation in auto prices, I wonder how close to this figure they can get. Possibly less than Nexon EV Max?

It may not necessarily be a structural change, as length increase can be achieved by increasing just bumpers and tailgate profile.

It would not be a great idea by Mahindra to play with the solid structure of base XUV3OO and they would want to achieve the highest safety with minimum modifications.

XUV300 has the worst boot space already (265 L) !

The original Ssangyong Tivoli is actually a much longer car. Its around 4.2 meters and has a boot space of 350+ liters. That car was "chopped" to fit under 4 meters to get excise duty benefit in India. All of that "chopping" happened at the boot hence the very low boot space of the XUV300. Also why the back end of the XUV300 ends abruptly.

For the eXUV300, the Mahindra is saying they will "use the body structure of the original SsangYong Tivoli". That would mean much more boot space.

They will need the increased underfloor volume for a larger battery.

I feel like they should have already launched it, or at least some other EV sometime in early 2022. Even an updated eVerito with more range would suffice. After all, even Tata sources the tech, instead of using in-house IP. No matter how good the Ssangyong Tivoli looks/is, products age fast in today's market and delays will might make it look too old in 2023.

Perhaps a phased range strategy would have worked? 250-300km range for now followed by an upgrade later? That Mahindra has plundered its own EV head start is known, but it beats me as to why they still don't have a competent EV on offer despite owning a multitude of mid-life platforms. What happened to all the BEV talk? Does Mahindra count the Tivoli as a BEV?

Delayed by 4 years at least.. That's not good. EV on Good selling ICE car will be a hit, so it makes sense to be in XUV 300.

But we guess they have deviated focus on KUV and Verito etc..

XUV 300 ICE itself need an upgrade to keep up with the competition in 2023.

Great, but realistic range could be in the region of 300kms, i believe. Even then, should serve the urban commuters well and also short inter-city travel. What baffles me is - why so late M&M? I mean you acquired Reva long back and many expected you to lead the EV revolution in India. But, Tatas are ahead. To me, this should have come a good couple of years ago.

XUV300 is a respectable product. According to me, in its ICE avatar, main drawbacks are: lack of proper AT and smaller boot-space. However, it's a very powerful car, especially the Diesel. '300 still manages decent numbers, it'd be interesting to see if there's an upgrade planned on regular model.
