Such ghastly looking product from a company that owns Pininfarina? Seriously?? If Mahindra's lack of integration with Reva left a lot to be desired, ignoring Pininfarina while designing current-gen products is next level absurdity!

I still find XUV300 in white to be a very classy design (backside excluded). It takes special talent to take that and spoil it.

Lastly, I don't think these are Pratap Bose designs. He's still very new in the company to have his design influence on new products.

Remember he got to design the new logo as soon as he was stepping in (which looks like a butterfly and not twin peaks to me)? I am sure he had his strong say in this. I found it bit funny hearing him explaining the reason for copper inserts: '....because electrons flow through copper...'.

The specs are really promising that appeals both to the heart with it's 8 sec 0-100 kmph and head with it's 450 plus kms range. I hope M&M prices it well. The elongated look really has cured almost all the design flaws of the XUV 300. The rear hatch on the EV is a lot more pleasing than it's ICE sibling as well thanks to the new tail lamp assy and cleaner lines on it.

For an EV I don’t see too many shortcomings in any of the segment offerings – unless copper accents, lack of climate control or fog lamps are the centre-piece of your grouse.

Speaking for myself, I wish Mahindra had gone that extra mile and offered AWD as an option, keeping in mind the lack of mechanical complexity in the transmission/drivetrain of pure EVs. But I haven’t given up hope. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that both Tata (e-Nexon) and Mahindra do a rethink and give this option in future. After all both EVs have SUV aspirations! And an SUV without AWD/4WD – come, come!

It would be a big hit for mahindra if they price it at par with nexon. The boot space is really impressive for a ev and so does the range and performance. Can't wait for this.

The copper theme of XUV400 feels inspired by CUPRA sub-brand of Spanish automaker SEAT (owned by VW Group).

For some reason i really seem to like the copper theme. It feels unique. I don't think so any other car maker has this copper theme available on their cars except for CUPRA and now Mahindra

True. Was reminded of Cupra as well.

But Mahindra could have executed better with more subtle elements and also chosen better colours. The light blue with copper feels so wrong compared to Cupra's choice of dark colours.

I think they (and the customers) need to jump through these hoops due to the supply chain shortages. Until 2019, manufacturers used to estimate which model (variant + color combo) will sell the most and make that. That's why wait times used to be lesser for certain colors and variants.<br>
Now, they are first gauging the market response and then making vehicles accordingly to avoid discounting unsold vehicles.

Disagree. It doesn't make any sense to generalise EV buyers like that. Have you personally surveyed current/potential EV customers to come to that conclusion?

Plus, there isn't EV car on sale that is short on tech so we can't conclude that EV buyers don't care about screens or sound quality. But of course, this can only be justified by the 400's pricing. Knowing Mahindra, they probably won't disappoint.

I think we need to be practical. We still are a country where there is paucity of various basic amenities. 15-16+ Lac cars (EV or not) are still only 10-20% of monthly sales volumes. And this scenario is likely to continue as advent of EVs does not change financial situation of India. The affordability will improve but only to a certain extent. So, bulk of sales will be non EVs only. So, for people who are demanding more Tech for 15-16+ Lac Rupee EVs, I agree with them as it does not really dent their pocket to any large extent if prices increase further. These buyers have the wherewithal to absorb the same.

EVs that we are currently seeing are all based on Chinese tech (Battery, Motor etc) and components and are not really ground up built platforms. Those babies will start arriving probably late 2023 or 2024 onwards. So, flashes of the existing cars would be inescapable as these are retrofitment jobs. Yes, even later we will be dependent on behemoths like BYD for our batteries. But i guess everything else can be hoped to be indegenised.

I am just waiting for the day when we will have a sub 10Lac rupee no non sense EV. Seems a pipe dream for the moment though till we have a tight control of Battery ecosystem like China does or some new revolution occurs.

Try as I may, I cannot see beyond that covered front grill and all the copper accents. The front grill looks like a it has a butterfly being attacked from both sides by bugs!
