Ford F-150 Lightning name for upcoming electric pickup truck

Ford is working on an all-new fully-electric pickup truck. According to media reports, this upcoming electric pickup truck will be called the F-150 Lightning.



The "Lightning" nameplate was last used on the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning models from the early-1990s. The all-electric Ford F-150 pickup will revive the nameplate after a period of over 2 decades.

Coming to the electric Ford F-150 itself, reports suggest that the pickup truck will come powered by a dual electric motor setup, powering all four wheels. While the exact power figures are yet to be announced, Ford claims that the electric pickup truck will have the highest power and torque outputs and the fastest acceleration of any F-150 on sale.

The upcoming F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck and its batteries will be produced at the Ford factory in Dearborn, Michigan (USA). The vehicle is expected to make its market debut in mid-2022.

Ford has been spotted recently installing 64,000-Square-Foot Screen On Its Headquarters. There are talks this could be ahead of the F-150 Lightning debut which is a pretty big deal for them.

Ford Motor Co. plans to reveal the all-electric F-150 Lightning on May 19 during an evening extravaganza that begins at 9:30 p.m. in a livestream event at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, the company announced at noon Monday.

The Free Press first reported earlier Monday on the installation of a projection screen at the headquarters over the weekend but Ford declined to comment then on anything involving the situation.

Ford spokeswoman Emma Bergg declined to provide any detail about how the new big screen will be used for the event. "More to come. We're excited."

The global event will be broadcast live with more than 30 ways to watch, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter as well as sites in Times Square in New York City and Las Vegas Boulevard, Ford said in its English and Spanish news releases.

Ford Motor Company has confirmed that its all-electric pickup truck will be called the 'F-150 Lightning'. The American car major also announced that the new electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck will be globally unveiled on 19 May.



The electric pickup truck will revive the 'Lightning' nameplate after a period of over 2 decades. The name was last used on the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning model from the early 1990s.

Ford states that the new electric F-150 will be quicker than the original 'Lightning' model, while also continuously improving via over-the-air (OTA) updates. The new electric pickup truck is also expected to introduce a number of innovations, technologies and capabilities to the F-Series.

While Ford is yet to reveal any further details, they have announced that the production of the F-150 Lightning will commence from Spring next year. The all-electric F-150 pickup truck will be manufactured at Ford's Rouge Complex in Dearborn, Michigan (USA).

Now there are reported rumors that the American President is going to check out the car before its launch, on May 18 and will be given a tour of the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center where the Lightning will be built . The F-150 is a pretty big deal for Ford and this is going to be a very important product going ahead in the Electric Vehicle revolution. Also Mr. President is known to be a car guy and his taste in cars have been discussed here (USA President Joe Biden is a complete car guy!).

The Detroit News reported, citing unnamed sources, that Biden is expected at Ford on Tuesday, May 18, and will be given a tour of the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center where the Lightning will be built. He's also expected to get an early look at the pickup and talk to Ford engineers about its development. The News reports he will speak publicly during the visit.

Ford just announced an electric F-150 Ligtning with a starting price of under $40,000 for a standard model with 230 miles (370 km) of range.

This is killer pricing for the most important segment in the US.



Highlights:

• Base model starts at $39,974 and has 230 miles of range before tax credits. It will have 318 KW/426 hp.

• Extended range variant with 300 miles range will start at $49,974. The extended model will come outfitted with 420 kW/563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft. of torque – the most torque of any F-150 ever. It does 0-60mph in just 4 seconds.

• All F-150 electric models will be AWD.

• F-150 Lightning can work as battery backup and power your house with a 9.6 KW capacity.

240V*32A*19hours = 146kwh which is 85% of the battery, the 100% charge is 171kwh, if the battery has any top buffers it's a whopping 180kwh battery. For perspective, 6 Nexon EVs can be built, the 180kwh battery version starts at ~$50K(37 lakh) before any incentives.

What's stopping us to build a 40kwh Nexon EV for less than 15 lakh. If you like it or not, current lithium batteries are safer, are now cheaper and help us get rid of fossil fuels.

I don't think anyone wants an electric Swift that is anything but swift and goes only 50kms before it needs a charge.

But this F-150 looks great!
Finally Rivian will have some competition, assuming of course Rivian actually makes it to the market.
I would expect more electric pick-ups from more manufacturers, in the US at least.
