Volkswagen ID 3 catches fire in Netherlands, under investigation:

last Saturday (August 14), a Volkswagen ID.3 spontaneously combusted and burned in Groningen, Netherlands.
It is understood that the owner of the car is a mother with a child. When noticed that the car suddenly smoked, she rescued the child from the car in time.
When the firefighters arrived at the scene, the fire was already very fierce.

they heard at least five explosions, and each explosion increased smoke. However, when the firefighters arrived at the scene, they successfully controlled the fire without causing casualties, but the Nissan Leaf behind the Volkswagen ID.3 was still affected. Before people start jumping guns about Electric cars only catching fires, here are some stats for all cars in general

- Close to 5000 cars went on fire in 2019. In 2020 this has increased to even more to ~5500 [source]



- The market share of EVs is increasing every year from ~5% in 2016 to ~20% in 2020. That doesn't mean that the fires reported are increasing because of electric vehicle sales increasing. But only Electric vehicle fire news reach the whole world, while the ICE car fires are taken as norm rather exception.

Volkswagen Confirms 8% Battery Capacity Degradation In This ID.3

8% after 14 months and over 25,000 km (16,000 miles).

It's a rather high value, but also the use case was specific: "...the car covered the first 15,000 km (9,000 miles) within the first three months of ownership. At the time, it was charged almost exclusively (90%) at 100 kW DC fast chargers up to full, and regularly discharged below 10% State of Charge (SOC). Later, the usage profile has changed to mostly 11 kW AC and up to 80% SOC.

2023 Volkswagen ID.3 facelift teased, promises higher-quality interior.

The infotainment is growing to a 12-inch touchscreen.

The Wolfsburg-based automaker goes as far as to say this ID.3 will be a second-generation model, but the teasers clearly show it will be more along the lines of a facelift. From what we can tell, the front bumper has a sportier look while the LED graphics of the taillights have been updated.

The biggest changes will occur inside the cabin where VW promises to step up its game in terms of quality. In addition, the touchscreen's size will be bumped from the current 10-inch diagonal to a 12-inch screen while the center console will be redesigned to accommodate a pair of cup holders. In the back, a removable compartment floor is going to boost the EV's practicality.

One of the VW ID.3's (and Golf's) teething problems, the software, will be tweaked yet again. Over-the-air updates will follow to further improve functionality. VW touts improved infotainment performance and upgraded assist systems, specifically the Travel Assist with Swarm Data and the Park Assist Plus with Memory Function. With the official preview released today, VW claims it has "listened to its customers and implemented many of their suggestions."
