a zero-emissions vehicle for a new era, new thinking and new mobility. The ID. SPACE VIZZION is a wagon of tomorrow that combines the aerodynamic characteristics of a Gran Turismo with the spaciousness of an SUV. Stylistically, the ID. SPACE VIZZION follows the design DNA of the ID. family, yet has a completely independent and progressive character.

The ID. SPACE VIZZION is based on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB). The MEB fully exploits the technical possibilities of e-mobility and guarantees long ranges, dynamic driving performance and a whole new level of digital networking.

The production version will be released in late 2021, and will come in different versions for North America, Europe and China.

VW preview its I.D 4 Concept SUV,

VW ID. Space Vizzion Concept Is An Electric GT, and it previews a production model for Europe and North America.

While the concept car is only fitted with a rear-mounted 275 HP motor, a second motor could be added to give it all-wheel drive capability and a total output of 355 HP. Thanks to an 82 kWh battery, the concept features a predicted range of up to 300 miles on the EPA cycle and 590 km on the WLTP cycle.

It measures 195.2 inches (4,958 mm) in length, 60.2 inches (1,529 mm) in width and is 74.7 inches (1,897 mm) wide, with a 116.7-inch (2,964 mm) long wheelbase. It also has a very low drag coefficient at 0.24 Cd, and 22-inch alloy wheels.

As is, the ID. Space Vizzion is powered by a 275 HP and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque rear-mounted electric motor and an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery. Total system output can be boosted to 335 HP with all-wheel drive thanks to a 101 HP coaxial drive, allowing you to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in 5 seconds flat. Top speed meanwhile is electronically limited to 109 mph (175 km/h). Charging time to 80% at 82 kWh takes approximately 30 minutes.

VW Confirms ID.3 and more about it

- First batch of hundreds of ID.3 are parked at dedicated sites. Will be tested by employees.

- Will manage to deliver cars in the Summer of 2020 and there is no change in the timing (although some hoped for June rather than August).

-Consumer cars will be built at a later stage (probably also with newer software and other improvements).

-The 1ST edition cars will be available only with single-zone climate control (the two-zone climate control will be available later).

-There will be no park-assist feature in the first edition cars (there are parking sensors and automatic emergency braking though).

- ID.3 will be a five-seater only in two battery versions: 45 kWh and 58 kWh, while the 77 kWh battery will be a four-seater.

-The biggest battery pack can not be combined with a panoramic roof

-The 45 kWh and 58 kWh version with a panoramic roof will be allowed to get a bike rack.

Till the time VW does not sort out it's SW issues these will stay in the stockyard. I really hope VW gets this sorted out soon, because their upcoming lineup on MEB toolkit is quite mouthwatering.

Compact in nature, it has dimensions similar to those of the current Golf: 4.26 meters long, by 1.81 wide and 1.55 high. Wheel base of 2.76 meters is joined that, as we will see later, give it excellent habitability.

Volkswagen adopts online sales model for its ID electric vehicle line in Germany - Link

German carmaker Volkswagen informed recently that all its retail partners have signed the agreement for the new sales model for vehicles from the all-electric ID. family.

As per the automaker, the sales launch of the ID.31 marks the start of the agency model for private customers and small commercial enterprises that has already proven its worth for major customers over many years.

Volkswagen provided a fleet of 150 electric ID.3 factories to employees of the factories in Zwickau, Chemnitz and Dresden.

The cars will be used daily to collect additional data in real driving conditions, pending the start of deliveries scheduled for September.
The information collected by the on-board electronics and direct feedback from the staff will help engineers to fine-tune the finishing touches before the model's sales start in Europe. Recruitment has been made on a voluntary basis and drivers will undertake to test any software updates that will be released in the coming weeks. The IDs that will be made available, in fact, are not yet the final ones and may differ in some respects from the cars that will actually be delivered from September.

Volkswagen, to date, has already collected orders for the 30000 expected models of the 1st Edition.

The ID3 measures 4.26 meters long, 1.81 meters wide, that is, typical dimensions of the Golf. But it's taller, at 5'50 meters, it's almost an SUV.
The wheelbase is huge for a car of this category, 2.76 meters - which is explained by the lower need for engine space, and also the allocation of batteries between the axles

The trunk holds 385 liters - also larger than the Golf. The ID3 features 18-inch wheels on the access model, reaching 19 inches on the Pro S, and up to 20 inches as optional.

The ID3 is initially being sold with a single motor version, electric, 150 Kw, or 204 hp, and maximum torque of 310 Nm, always associated with a 1-speed gearbox.

The ID.3 can be operated in D mode (Drive) as a normal car, or in B mode (Brake), in which, when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator, there is a strong motor brake, which in addition to stopping the car, recharges the battery (regenerates), and allows operation basically with only 1 pedal.

There are two battery options. One of 58 Kwh, which allows a range of up to 426 km in the WLTP cycle, and a larger one, 77 Kwh, in the Pro S model, which has autonomy of up to 549 km.

Although the engine is the same there is a difference in performance between the Pro Performance (58 KWh) and Pro S (77 kWH) greens. The model of shorter range accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 160 km/h. The model with a battery of 77 kWh reaches 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds - a little slower to extend the autonomy. Later Volkswagen will offer a version with engine of 146 hp, and also smaller battery, around 33 KWh.

Battery

The batteries are allocated in an aluminum box 14 cm high, by 145 cm in length. The 'width' and 144 cm in the version of 58 KwH (Performance S) and 182 cm in the PRO S (77 Kwh). It weighs 495 kg.

These batteries are cooled by a circuit that also meets the air conditioning.
The batteries are guaranteed for 160,000 km or 8 years. After this period the battery will be at least 70% of its maximum capacity

The ID.3 can be loaded into alternating current systems, such as a common home outlet of 110V or 220V.

there is a faster charging system, 11 Kw, which allows to recharge the entire battery of ID.3, between 6 and 7 hours on average.

I liked the auto regen feature, how this works is when the car sees another car in front of it based on the distance it adjusts the regen level. If no car is detected or the other car is very far then the id3 coasts. This makes the id3 more efficient, less use of brakes and no need of driver input.

What I like in the review is the feeling that VW has got the basics spot on and have produced a car that is very nice to drive. The various controls were rightly pointed out as unnecessarily complicated but for the large part it looks like a very nice car to own as a daily driver.

I like the design too quite a lot. Elegant with good design touches. The black hatch and tail lamp area. Nice. I would live to see this here. But then if it comes I can see some outlandish price tag attached to it as well.

It is good to see that CEO is taking ID3 for a long trip and giving feedback.

Of all the ID3 reviews I have watched, VW got the powertrain and driving dynamics perfect but only downside was the new user interface. Most of the reviewers complained about non-intuitive touch controls for windows and touch controls on the steering wheel. Even I am really shocked by how a company such as VW could get basic UI wrong in the name of digitalisation. I don't understand how much cost would VW save by replacing two rear window switches with a touch sensitive control. And the basic idea of steering wheel controls is to control basic functions without taking eyes off the road. E.g. in my Golf Mk7, using contours of the physical buttons on the steering wheel I could easily control music, cruise control, etc. without taking eyes off the road. But with touch controls, I don't think you can easily find the wanted switch.

Also in LinkedIn Diess complained that the music forward/skip should be controlled by up switch and not down switch. In ID3 steering, it seems the music previous/next is controlled by up/down switch and volume increase/decrease by right/left switch at bottom on the same side of steering wheel. This not intuitive. Normally, the volume control should be up/down and previous/next should be right/left. In Golf, both volume and previous/next are controlled by right/left switches on different sides of steering wheel which is somewhat better that ID3.

Just replace the touch sensitive buttons with physical buttons (as in Golf Mk8) and provide a scroll up/down for volume control with centre press for mute ( I am already annoyed by absence of Mute button in Golf Mk7). Plain and simple!

Simply replacing all physical buttons with touch controls does not mean digitalisation. VW got it wrong!!!
