Interesting. Living here, I know just one person amongst a lot of my friends and coworkers has booked it. Another one who did pay the booking amount, already has paid for the Chevrolet Bolt and will decide if he wants to wait for the Model 3 after using that for a while.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Model 3 RHD is not expected until late 2018 - early 2019. So they will be launching with Model S and X. The government should waive off the import duty entirely for electric cars as there are other benefits such less pollution and less dependence on crude oil. Besides, they might consider India for one of the near future Giga-factories if we show them that we are serious.

Considering that there were articles in newspaper saying we have excess power now and they were trying to give it to Industries for reduced rates, they should encourage electric mobility in a big way.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla confirms 5,000 Model 3's a week will be built by the end of the year, with 10,000 a week in 2018.

Quote:
Production delays have hampered Tesla launches in the past, but this latest update reveals the company is on track with the Model 3. Limited production will begin in July, with volume production by September. Across all three of its vehicles, Tesla aims to be capable of making 500,000 cars a year in 2018.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla proves to always be different. Here is the next move,

Tesla Model 3 Founders Series Will Be First Delivered To Company Employees.

Quote:
The Founders Series Model 3, which is Tesla’s equivalent of Mercedes-Benz’ Edition 1 models, will be delivered to company employees first. Instead of offering the first completed units to customers, the company will hand those cars over to its employees.
Reasoning:

Tesla is inexplicably favoring employees over customers, the automaker wants to be sure that the first people to drive production-built Model 3 cars will be familiar with the brand.

The employees will also be more interested in ensuring the brand will succeed, and their feedback will be more concise than what regular users will provide.

Tesla is also a fan of updating its models through over-the-air-software, which can ensure that the first customer cars will not manifest any potential bugs or “hiccups” encountered by the early users.

After Tesla completes delivering the Founders Series Model 3 units to its employees, it will continue to hand over the keyfobs of the automobiles acquired by clients close to its factory in Fremont, California.

From there, production will be ramped up, and the distribution process will be operated as it is with conventional automobiles.

Quote:
Tesla is giving Model 3 parts suppliers with volume estimates pegged at 1,000 vehicles per week in July, 4,000 per week in August and 5,000 per week in September, before hitting the target of 10,00 vehicles per week sometime in 2018.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla Model 3 would be limited to only those who can afford, the price and the risk to own car without minimum required support.

Hence, any discount on custom duty is ruled out. A small number would not change the environment. Even manufacturing base in India, which I doubt, may not bring the near term cost appealing to general mass.

However, Indian manufacturer's must learn fast. Beautiful eco-friendly cars can also be made by us. Meeting our requirements and limitations!

Sadly enough, only Mahindra seems serious on this front. Why does Tata not think bringing Nano sort of battery-operated car, which is good for at least city use and office going. Hydrogen fuel system is a old story.

Why can't we be the leader and not just follower?

Tesla Model3 prototypes seen in CA.

Quote:
Tesla Model 3 prototype spotted driving up and down the road near SpaceX’s hyperloop test track along its headquarters in Hawthorne, California.
A glimpse of the interior and again, nothing new is visible. It seems to be equipped with the same steering wheel and center screen.

The company has a garage right next to SpaceX, which is also near Tesla’s Design Studio.

Quote:
The original images came from Unplugged Performance’s Instagram account. They now released more footage of the vehicle on their Youtube channel.

The video shows the vehicle in a much higher resolution and confirms what we suspected on Friday – that it’s the same pre-alpha prototype revealed in March 2016 and that has been spotted on a few occasions before. It doesn’t feature any visible changes.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla Model 3 'release candidate' - Elon Musk showed off the prototype's first drive, then dropped details on performance and RHD models.
It's unlikely there will be any major styling or content revisions from this before the car goes into production.

Also reveals that a performance version of the Model 3 with dual motors and all-wheel-drive is likely to arrive next year, around the same time as right hand-drive models for the UK.

Quote:
Despite the Model 3's lighter weight, it will also pack a smaller 75kWh battery, which means even the performance model will still trail the Model S in acceleration. That would leave the Model S as the EV speed king until the next-gen Roadster launches in a few years, which is the same window given for Tesla's mass-market SUV, the Model Y.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Thanks Volkman.

One piece of advice for anyone planning on booking in india. Service backup for these cars are not present in our country, so unless you are willing to wait months on end for parts, which could be due to a accident, or if you have other cars and do not care, I would highly recommend staying away till they get their centers sorted out.

A journalist had a crash in the states, a regular rear end collision, and car was out of service for months, till he wrote about it.

Tesla fan boy here, but realist too.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla Model 3 ramp-up aims to beat BMW, Mercedes in just 1 year!

Quote:
three months from the official start of production, the Tesla CEO seems to think he can not only match the performance of those top luxury brands, but outsell them in the U.S., too -- in just one year
Tesla has a number of tricks in store for the Model 3 launch.
Quote:
With unusual specificity for an automaker, he disclosed detailed production targets in a call with investors last month that begin to paint a picture.
Quote:
Musk said the company is placing orders with suppliers for “1,000 cars a week in July, 2,000 a week in August, and 4,000 a week in September.” Tesla then plans to increase production to 5,000 cars a week by the end of the year, and 10,000 a week by the end of 2018. For context, the company is currently able to make about 2,000 Model S and Model X cars a week.
Quote:
For Musk to hit all of his targets, Tesla would need to build about 430,000 Model 3s by the end of next year. That’s more than all of the all-electric cars sold worldwide last year. The rollout will begin in California and move east, focusing on U.S. reservation holders. Even if half of the Model 3 inventory shipped to other countries, U.S. sales under Musk’s targets would outpace the BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C class -- combined.
Quote:
Musk is putting that interest to use, releasing the first several thousand Model 3s to employee reservation holders
Quote:
This is a huge advantage unique to the Model 3. As early problems are identified, they can be fixed at the work site. If there’s a hardware problem that requires a recall of the fleet -- as happened with a seat defect in the first 2,700 Model Xs -- employees need only drive to work to have them fixed. This means that even while Tesla shortens pre-launch testing, by the time production ramps up to a wider audience, the Model 3 may have nevertheless undergone more rigorous internal troubleshooting than most cars.

Elon Musk confirms that the Model 3 will have a single display and no HUD and rely solely on a large central screen to display all of its key details.

No instrument cluster on the new Tesla Model 3!

Being able to quickly glance at your road and engine speeds, fuel level or engine temperatures is taken for granted, but Tesla seems to want to make it a whole lot more difficult.

Quote:
Fans of common sense should look away now. The Tesla Model 3 is going to have no displays other than a giant tablet device attached to the middle of the dashboard.

That means no speedometer, rev counter, fuel gauge, temperature gauges or even a damn clock in front of the driver. Elon Musk has confirmed that all the Model 3’s readouts will be confined to the central screen, which could easily be compromised by glare in daylight.

Tesla is making the move to boost the futuristic, minimalist interior feel of the new Model 3, focusing on providing a layout that works for Autopilot mode, but in the process it sacrifices the everyday practicality of having multiple dials and screens. It could even be down to cost-cutting as Tesla scrambles to make a profit.

Tweets from Elon Musk also confirm that the Model 3 won’t be getting a head-up display of any kind, either. It means drivers really will have to deal with just the one screen, which, when the sun is in the wrong place, will be completely illegible. Is it just us, or is this an astonishingly bad idea if you’re driving the car yourself?

Personal Opinion : Never expected Tesla to cut such major corners just to save a few bucks. Sure, it's sensible for Auto-Pilot but a person who wants to drive, can't/shouldn't crane his neck each time to see the RPM or Speedometer. Reminds me of a Nano and Etios. Absolutely senseless. Not to mention will distract the driver hence compromising safety.

I've been always impressed by the way Tesla develops it's products. They are the pioneers of electric supercars. Model S and X are absolutely brilliant.

This though, is a big let down.

That's Tesla's way of doing things. It has taken the car and converted it into a wheeled laptop.
The current scenario is such that whatever Tesla does differently is instantly hailed as greatest and best (Like the gimmicky doors on some of it's cars).
So, even this Television like contraption sticking out of the console, will be hailed as an award winning design decision.

It will soon be endorsed by some 'experts' that this setup will keep exercising the neck and reduce chances of Spondilitis!

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Musk said that Tesla was aiming for the Model 3 to be competitive with the BMW 3-Series, so it is not surprising to see the Model 3 testing along side a BMW!

Quote:
--spotted it near Tesla’s headquarters in Palo Alto – where most of Tesla’s prototypes are spotted.

Apparently, the Model 3 was following a BMW.
They could be tuning the vehicle’s driving performance, which would explain why it was following a BMW and they switched drivers.
