Thanks for sharing. There is startup in Bengaluru also doing the same and similar work is being done across the world. Aluminium air batteries are not new.

Unless they put one in a actual vehicle and sell it and show the working for months, no one will be very excited ! Hope Aluminium can be recycled completely.

Few have driven a Tesla to the point at which the vehicle really starts to show its age. But Tesloop, a shuttle service in Southern California comprised solely of Teslas, was ticking the odometers of its cars well past 300,000 miles with no signs of slowing.

Electric or Hydrogen? Missed Opportunity?

Hi all,

Here is what I think of the whole Electric Car madness by Govt. According to me, the Electric Cars are no cleaner than the ICE cars. Following are my points:

1. There is no Battery Disposal Plan in place,
2. There is no "Green" production method on Battery .
3. Over dependence on other countries for Lithium, hence from "Imported Oil" trap to "Imported Lithium".
4. The current charges being installed are only upto 50Kw/H and not even the old 150Kw/H used in US and forget the 350kw/h being installed in Europe.
5. Obviously, we all are aware of the charging times and the issues related to it.

I think, this is a missed opportunity, it is a typical knee jerk reaction by the Govt to implement anything available to appease the green lobby.

Since we are anyway starting from scratch, we should promote Hydrogen fuel rather than batteries. This simply takes care of all the above problems associated with Batteries, their manufacturing, disposal and charging issues.

All the manufacturers are anway starting afresh, so investing in a "cleaner" or a better long term solution makes more sense. Also, I think, likes of Toyota, Honda, Merc etc. already have Hydrogen vehicles.

In 20 years time, we will be again staring at "What to do with Battery" problem!

Just my 2 cents on the whole issue and my personal opinion.

Chinese are skeptical about Pure EV's, but embrace Hybrids.

IMHO, we need to look at the overall Chinese market which is going through a slump because of sudden drop of subsidies. It seems like the overall chinese hybrid market is crashing bigtime.

It is true that japs have superior hybrid tech, and they are desperately trying to keep that going, with despicable attempts to rebrand gas burning cars as EVs with unlimited range. In that hybrid market japs are doing better. It is not a reflection of entire Chinese marketplace.

Toyota is up to no good again. They were taking pride as an environmentally conscious company, now they are trying to kill EVs as they have no EV ramps planned, no investments, and their "we also have an EV" product roadmap, will never be able to compete against mass produced EV.

They continue with their mis-information campaign. Hope the Govt. takes note and stays firm with their current EV plan.

A course on NPTEL (it's free to watch) regarding electric vehicles, while taking an exam might not be necessary , the lectures should help learn and understand EVs considering they seem to be the future.

BMW R&D chief sees no market for BEVs in most of US.

They do not have the supply chain secured for BEVs, and they want to keep pushing hybrids - ICE, with a puny battery to call it an EV. With this mindset, if we are waiting for top class BEVs, they will not be coming from BMWs anytime soon.

Hearing Toyota, Honda, now BMW - these guys may kill the EVs again, or die a slow death themselves. Time will tell.

China vehicle sales decline for second straight year; EV demand dips for first time.

Automakers are cautious with their predictions after cutting production, shutting factories and firing staff last year.

It is important to note both percentages. And considering the fall in overall vehicle sales, EV sales did relatively well.
Vehicle sales decline for 2019 is 8.2%
EV sales decline for 2019 is 1.2%

- Globally, this preference for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) is led by Japan at 47 per cent, followed by India

- 51 per cent Indian consumers prefer ICE vehicles (gas/diesel) for their next purchase while 25 per cent Indian consumers vouch for HEV and 15 per cent go for battery electric vehicles (BEV), 9 per cent for other options like ethanol, CNG and fuel cells.

- 81 per cent of the people very clearly articulated that they are much more likely to consider BEVs if gasoline prices reach more than Rs 152 per litre while only 31 per cent have an interest in battery EVs if fossil fuels rise upto Rs 95 per litre.

- 53 per cent of Indians agreed to pay up to Rs 1,00,000 more for EVs compared to a similar vehicle with ICE

-10 per cent respondents expressed reservation regarding paying anything extra

- 21 per cent said they would pay anything more between Rs 100,000 to Rs 300,000.

- 34 per cent also believe that it is the responsibility of the OEMs to setup a network of publicly accessible EV charging stations, while 31 per cent believe that the government is responsible for this.

- 30 per cent believe that the minimum driving range for BEVs should be at least 200 miles ( ~ 320 KM) while 14 per cent are expecting the minimum driving range to be at least 50 miles (~80 KM)

-35 per cent consumers are willing to wait for an average of 45 min for a BEV to be fully charged, while only 7 per cent are ready to wait for four hours or more.
