DIY interior courtesy LED lights - Punto Emo pack.

Hello,

This is my first post about any sort of modification i have carried out on my cars...

I usually am very lazy, i dont bother to take pictures during or after the mod process.

here is the background for this project:

In the punto, the cabin light is too dim / not powerful enough to reach into the footwell on the passenger side; there are no courtesy lights under the front doors like on the Safari.

I decided to add my own and here is the end result:

first off, the picture of the LED strip - it is a warm white strip waterproofed.

Since it is about 3PM, i shall post the pics of the lights in action later.

materials required:

LED strip : 1.5 mts
Wire : 8-9 mts
time: about 1 hr

total cost:
LED strip: Rs. 280 per Meter
Wire: Rs. 10 per meter
labor: depends on your installer.

More pictures later when it gets dark.

~Madhu.

Update!!!

Hi all,

sorry about the picture quality, it was taken in my company's basement parking.

Anyway, i shall try to take better pictures some other time.

The first one is the passenger door picture; the second one is the passenger footwell.

The door light is installed on the driver door as well.

Didn't know that those LED strips were available in the 'warm white' colour. Looks good.

I'm thinking of putting up some sort of courtesy lights in the footwell of my Linea. You've definitely given me some ideas. Waiting for more pictures...

Where did you get the LED strip in Bangalore?

@coloneljasi: thanks! i think you can install bigger LEDs in the linea without it looking bad... I have the 3mm LEDs; i think you can be safe with 5mm even.

@Akhil@Bengaluru: I got it from SP road; i have some left over in case youre interested... PM me.

the trick is to get the wiring to work with the Fiat cabin lights.

i shall see if i can get pics of this later this week.

So the LEDs are wired to the cabin lights? these come on when the door is opened or u manualy turn on the cabin lights?

Where is the LED strip placed on the door? is it stuck with glue?

Yes... the LEDs are wired to the cabin lights; they work tandem with the cabin light.

the passenger foot well light comes on when the door is opened or the passenger side light is switched on.

the door lights come on only when the door is opened or the door switch is turned on.

The Led strips come with an adhesive backing; no need to use glue. Just clean the area where you want to install them with alcohol and stick them.

sorry about the lack of pictures, will try to get them tomorrow.

Great, thanks for the info, so any details on how the wiring was achieved?

How'd you reckon that? Don't the Linea and GP share the same interiors (more or less anyway)?

Anyways, thanks for sharing. I'll see if I can source some of those warm white LED strips locally.

Well, dont you think its maybe because it is outside and is exposed to the elements?

i did a quick measure (with fingers and eyeballing) on my friends linea and the door pads are a bit longer and the footwell is wider.

let me try to get a more accurate measurement this weekend.

cheers!

Re: DIY interior courtesy LED lights - Punto Emo pack.

Did the same in old M800. Replaced old dull cabin light with LEDs. Now 1m of LED strip costs just 120Rs., which contains 60 LEDs (Segments of 3 each. Can be cut in blocks of 3)

Just sticked it over the existing lamp cover.

Voila!

Entire 1metre length consumes just 200mA.
Didn't harm any wiring. It can be rolled back by peeling it away and replacing the stock bulb.

It works on 12V DC. No driver or oscillator needed. Look it closer - it's marked +12V.
