Yes, it worked now, mostly likely its was due to power in USB port, I am not 100% sure though sinec I also tried several other steps as well like starting the head unit server on the phone and trying to troubleshoot with head unit emulator on PC.

This is tailored for Android Auto, so unfortunately, it doesn't work with Apple CarPlay.

Re: Wireless Android Auto Dongle for your car using Raspberry Pi Zero W

Works perfect. I had to get a proper micro USB cable as all the ones lying around the house didn't work.
But now it connects within 10 seconds and switches off when the car is off. There is miniscule delay when compared to wired but no major problem.
Great solution.

One observation. Even when I turn off my car, the Raspberry PI light keeps on. Is it normal? I think this could become a AUX battery drain source?

Any insights apprecaited!

First thing is to ensure that the micro USB is a proper USB data cable. Many equipment including power banks are charging only cables which don't have USB data pins which will not work.

Re: Wireless Android Auto Dongle for your car using Raspberry Pi Zero W

Got it working on Innova Hycross, Pi zero W 32GB sd card. With the positioning of the USB found that cable is better than Upright USB dongle PCB. I cut and soldered a USB cable to adjust the length.

If you have a phone with micro usb connector you can connect using the cable to a computer and see if you get options for copying files from the phone.

We started with wireless setup so that we dont have to start with a wire. We ended up doing that now

If the issue persists even after changing the cables, try resetting your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Search for Reset in settings. Please refer to the screenshot below.

After resetting, reconnect to Bluetooth, and it should automatically connect to Wi-Fi. Give it a try.

Just check with some other phone also.

Very true.

Put the photo as someone had asked where to place the mobile in Hycross.

Re: Wireless Android Auto Dongle for your car using Raspberry Pi Zero W

Giving my first day review of this setup.
Drove for 1hour 30 mins, and mobile battery consumed from around 10% and for the whole time maps and amazon music was running on Android Auto Mode.

1. In morning the mobile didnt connect wirelessly by itself. I had to remove the Raspberry pie's power source and reconnect. With this the connections worked seamlessly
2. Android Auto Stopped 2 times, rather crashed 2 times. But it auto recovered within seconds
3. The Raspberry pi 0 2W didnt heat much in 1.5 hours of usage. But I would still attach a heat sink for the really warm days.
4. Have kept the Raspberry Pi connected to USB today to see if it actually stops when I lock the car.

Will now update after a month of usage!

Are you noticing any issues with the voice commands? For me, I can see the animation that it is listening and hearing my voice. But it is never able to understand the voice command and times out. Earlier in the wired mode, it was usually almost instantaneous to recognize the voice commands.
