Re: DIY: A Parking Fuse

Terrific Idea. It meets your needs and serves your purpose.

Please include the following -

Mark the contact points on the fuse.Wrap the contact points with some sponge or cotton balls. This way there is no scratch to car’s clear coat overtime.

Also you could try those cheap wireless number plate cameras. Inside of mounting it on the rear, mount the camera on the front number plate . Will be useful to see what’s below the bonnet line of our view while parking.

Re: DIY: A Parking Fuse

Interesting thread and seemingly the engineers in here have suggested a lot of good ideas for a tight parking spot.

Me personally, would have gone with something like this.

Check out this contraption which was once under Maruti Genuine Accessories, and they advertised that funny sound as alarm too!

Re: DIY: A Parking Fuse

While not applicable in this case because of the permanent nature of work, one way to overcome the two different lengths issue is to place the bumps at different distances? Say the left one for Sedan A and the right side one for Sedan B.

Still hard especially if the bumps are such that the car would need to be mid way on one hump to reach the other - that presents a risk.

But the tennis ball idea is more scalable for this if the ceiling modifications were permitted. The colour of the ball could be same as the colour of the car.

Reversing into the lot is going to be harder especially if there is a ramp up towards the parking. Also, coming home late at night, with low visibility, I would always prefer to park the car straight in after a long hard day's work. Reversing in the morning is more preferable than reversing at night. Also, if there is a ramp, reversing down a slope is easier than reversing up a slope.

Really, the original solution in this post solves all this in a very elegant way.

Re: DIY: A Parking Fuse

On back to back parking, in the interest of information, linked one of my posts here (Parking bump stoppers, wheel chocks & pillar/corner guards)

However this requires position of the chocks to be perfect. Better have the 2nd car driver manually position this exactly on a marked spot and drive up in the 2nd. Same applies for clearing the chock
