DIY : Sun visor for the Infotainment screen

DIY : Sun Visor for Infotainment screen

Honda City 5G in specific has this annoying glare when we have sun right on top of the wind shield. The infotainment screen is at an angle that is most prone to glare. ( why Honda, doesn't this count in ergonomics ??!)

Below is a desi jugaad, quite a simple one indeed, but solves my problem for good.

Materials required :
1. PVC file ( slightly of heavy material ).
2. Pair of scissors.

And finally a video clip

Cheers ! Hope it helps.

Might be a jugaad but is executed to perfection, you might want to patent this!

On a somewhat serious note, I am sure dealers would not hesitate twice before calling it an OEM accessory by slapping a sticker on it and selling it for something like 'Rs. 1999/- Only'.

I face a similar problem with my Ciaz unit and I think I have got some mod inspiration from you for this weekend!

Re: DIY : Sun visor for the Infotainment screen

Nice work swarup. The only thing I can add is that if anybody is finding it hard to find a groove to slot the pvc piece in another car they can consider male/female velcro pieces to hold the piece in place.
It's a common technique we use to make DIY hoods for film monitors.

I believe this mod will be necessity in future. With all cars now having floating HUs, or placed high up, glare is inevitable. People will have to get Shades for the HU as well!
Desi Jugaaads at best!

Loving it and will try very soon on my Compass. We need more and more of such brilliant, simple and useful DIY's

I faced this glare issue many times as I don't drive in nights, I plan all my trips day time and glare ruins my head unit usage experience.

Re: DIY : Sun visor for the Infotainment screen

Congrats. Nicely done and inexpensive as well. About OEM visor, I think Honda designers or any car designers for that matter, they wouldn't design a visor for the infotainment screen placed prominently in the center of the dash board which may cause injury to the occupants with sharp edges in case of accidents.

But, this one done using soft material like hard plastic file cover, this visor wouldn't cause any issues.

Re: DIY : Sun visor for the Infotainment screen

Suggestion: Get this 3D printed! Any desktop 3D printer would be able to get this done, plus you can add custom clamps that blend in better with your dash!
I've made quite a few of these 'micro inventions' on my printer.

Honestly this doesn’t look like a jugad at all, looks nicely done. I’m doing to try it on my 5G as well.

Re: DIY : Sun visor for the Infotainment screen

That's just brilliant! And inexpensive. I have the same problem in my 2018 Elite i20. The display which is already quite dim, goes to almost illegible on sunny days. I'll share the pictures after the experiment!

Re: DIY : Sun visor for the Infotainment screen

Humbled by the response this DIY has got.

What started out as a simple ( rather dumb) and Honda City only DIY seems to have found its purpose in a lot of vehicles facing the same issue.

The visor in itself shields the sun glare for most of 10 AM - 3 PM drives. It does get glared up during the early morning when the sun hits at the angle and late evenings . However, for at least 60% of my rides, I don't find the glare for which I'm really pleased.

Cheers!
