Nice! How did you spray the paint? And were you using a rotary sander as well? I have the exact same area to be touched up and was contemplating on DIY.

Hey, no I did not spray the paint. Since it was mixed by the paint shop and I had no painting tools, I requested the guy there to use his gun and spray it over. However, he refused saying the gun he has wont work for this. There was a bike painting shop next door and the paint guy called someone from that shop and introduced him to me and advised me to get it done from the painter directly. We negotiated on a price and he did the job of both spraying the base coat and the clear. The pictures you see on that post is right after painting. I left it for nearly ten days after which I sanded and polished the whole bumper. Polishing cant be done immediately since the paint would only be touch dry and the polisher can rip it out easily.

EDIT: I re-read your post about the rotary sander. Yes, I sanded the surface after filler with the help of a sanding disc attached to my rotary polisher. My earlier tries on WagonR with manual sanding didnt yield good results.

Wonderful thread Audioholic!

I recently got a scratch on my one year old EcoSport. This is quite a different type of colour, like a brownish orange or kind of bronze. Ford service centre has quoted ₹4800 for repainting this! I am yet to search around the city for a good repainting centre, if they can match the shade and do a good job.

Com paint has this "Canyon Ridge" shade under their Ford EcoSport colour choices. Few questions I have in mind -

1) Would you still recommend Com paint or are there any downside to it which you've discovered since putting up this thread?

2) As I understand, the repainted surface after this DIY wouldn't be having clear coat anymore. Would you recommend just a detailing or spraying additional clear coat to get that shiny finish?

I think most of these scratches can be buffed out except one or two lines. Hence I would not suggest either DIY touch up or getting it repainted. Just get the area buffed using rubbing compound or do it yourself. Painting the entire panel for this is not worth it IMO and using any touch up paint will make it look worse since it will be a patch work.

Well, the actual scratch looked like this, fresh after the impact -

I cleaned the area and rubbed it lightly with Waxpol rubbing compound. But since I had read that rubbing compound would do more damage to the clear coat, I didn't rub it too much. After rubbing the scratch looks like this -

Maybe a professional detailer might be able to get rid of most of the lighter scratches. The couple of lines that are deeper are what worries me, will they lead to rusting if left as it is?

Re: DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper

I would suggest doing a hand touch-up using a fine brush first and then see the results.

Even for hand touch-up, you can use the filler included and wet sand it for a smooth surface.

Dont use clear coat, com paint does get dull over time (which you can clean and paint again), so it works best for touch-ups as that will get easily merged with the body.

After Market Paint Kit / Scratch Remover Kit

Hi Guys,

I own a 2019 Honda Amaze (Radiant Red).
While it was parked on the street, some guy brushed the rear bumper (i guess while parking / unparking his car behind me)
While it is nothing major, its still a irritating little white paint scratch (of his vehicle i guess) and a little bit of paint has chipped off.
I need some quick DIY quick fix product if its available.
Any recommended kits / companies / products that I can get hold off ?
I stay in Mumbai.
I will try to attach a picture next time.

Note 1: I had recently taken the car to Honda SC and got my front bumper rhs & fender rhs done via insurance. That was completely my fault, misjudged a pillar while parking.
So I dont want to take this to the insurance once again, mainly because its too minor for anyone to notice.

Thanks,
Nikhil

Note 2: MODS - if this is in a wrong section, please let me know where I should post these kinds of questions.

Com-paint deep scratch and dent repair experience

Tried my hands at a deep scratch and dent repair using com-paint kit.

Car- Hyundai Verna
Color - Fiery red

I had ordered com-paint value pack kit directly by calling them up, the kit reached my address in Trivandrum within 10 days.

Decided to try this on one of the deep scratches near the right rear door:

DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper-1.jpg

Washed the area using car shampoo thoroughly, and the applied com-fill putty. What I learned from this process was that this is not as easy as it looks, in the how-to videos. I had to have 3 iterations of putty+sanding to get a decent finish for a first-timer. This is how it looked:

DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper-2.jpg

After waiting for about 15 minutes, I applied 3 coats of color paint with a 7-10 minutes interval between coats.
After 10 more minutes, applied the com-merge clear coat (3 coats again). The area appeared completely matt even after the clear coats. This was the finish after this process.

DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper-3.jpg

The kit's manual asks you to wait for a day before cutting and polishing, however, I ended up polishing the same day evening. Found that the com-cut polishing compound that came with the kit is a little ineffective, so I ended up using Formula 1's headlamp restorer (slightly more abrasive) after sanding the area with 2500 grit emery pad that came with the kit.

Here's the final result:

DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper-4.jpg

Happy with the results, though there are imperfections. Noted that the paint is a tad bit darker than the original color, so if you create any distinct borders with masking tapes, then it is going to be noticeable. The best idea is to follow the com-paint tutorial videos in which they don't go up to the masking boarder with color coat or clear coat, so that the transition is smooth. Don't worry about the finish after polishing - a good polishing job will make the transition seamless.

Another imperfection is that the puttied area is still slightly lighter than the surrounding areas - I guess I should have gone for more number of color coats.

Decent DIY touch up job. Just a point to note, Com Merge is not a clear coat, it's more like a sprayable thinner to help feather the paint edges. You can buy a can of clear coat and spray over this for better results

Re: DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper

audioholic and other warriors, what would you all suggest for the following?

That's an Altis bumper. I checked the CP website with my car details, but they don't have an ivory white colour option. Just a plain white, while the car is ivory white. Should I proceed with CP DIY?

Hi, check Diamond White colour for Scorpio and Ecosport. I think it might match your car's colour. Safari also has a similar shade called Pearl White.

Please try using the chat support button in compaint website. My Hexa's sky grey was not listed on the website. I enquired through chat if it could be made available and they sent it to me after confirming the model and colour. Took two weeks though.

I think there is a bit of disruption on the CP paint supply due to lockdowns. A couple of friends were trying to get previously easily available Nexon paints & were not available recently. I suggest you wait a bit till you get the correct paint back in stock.

Scorpio I think matches nearly with the Corollas. The Safari's pearl white is a tad "whiter" than this milkier/creamier shade of the Corolla IMO.

Re: DIY: Fixing a scraped / scratched bumper

Hey Bhpians,

Can these scratches disappear with non-paint treatments ? If yes can someone suggest a professional detailer around Chembur/Santa Cruz Mumbai who can get rid of these scratches ? I used a product from formula 1 stable but no luck with it.

Thanks in Advance !
