Most of the time OEM mats wont cover the entire area, they are made to be easily put in and removed. If the OEM mats didnt have wilcro to hold it in place, they get displaced.
With newspaper we can get the exact mould and can also make sure the mats are shaped out in such a way the edges are pushed under the front seat railings or other holding areas, so that they are not displaced.

It has come out very well. Good to see your hard work has been paid off.

A small doubt, how about the driver side mat? has it deformed due to frequent usage. I have seen these mat but it gets compressed after some use. Have you faced such issues?

Re: DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats

Very well done . I ran away from 3M when they quoted like 4k for my i10. This is really cheap and good stuff.

My existing rubber mats are bad and slippery sometimes in rains. So thinking of getting this type of mats.
One question though, how is the grip? Specially if you have say wet shoes/chappals?

Hmm, I cannot really comment on the grip, but I can say it feels very good to rest your feet on them (maybe a psychological feeling). However, I dont believe the grip should be a concern in the wet.

As mentioned, I bought this from a shop in Tippasandra. Yes, they come in different colours - Black, Grey, Beige and if you are one of those bling types, you can try out the Red, Green or Blue. There is another type of mesh, something like small grass shoots, but per me, looks a bit cheap. This costed me Rs 75 per sqft, bought 17 sq ft - 8.5 feet length of a 2 feet wide mat. I'm sure you can get better deals in JC Road or SP Road.

What is the material known commercially as ? What type of shop do I go to and ask for what ?

You bet, I liked it. Want the same for my ARIA as the nooks ans crannies are more in the third row of seats. Got a transparent sheet cut to size, but it's width is shorter than that reqd and not enough left for the front. Secondly, the material is smooth and slips, defeating the very purpose.

I dont know about the commercial name, just ask for floor mats or noodle mats that come in rolls. They should know.

I had seen rolls of the noodle mat (similar to 3M Nomad), so thought I would do a DIY with this. Was a long weekend with Monday being a holiday, I thought I would take this up. Really happy that it came out well. Will observe for few days and maybe do a repeat for my X1.

The material is available in two widths - 2 feet and 4 feet. It is sold in sq ft, so its important that you first take an approx measure of how much you will need so as to avoid wastage. I bought a 2 feet width one (beige colour), 8.5 feet length. Thats 17 sq ft. After a bit of bargaining, got it at Rs. 1300. I'm sure you will get it cheaper if you scout around. I got it at approx Rs 76/sq ft.
Next is to get a newspaper template of the exact dimensions and then cutting the material as per this template. You will always need to do some final tweaking in the car - especially to accomodate the cutting for dead pedal, fuel lid opener etc.
Tools needed - Good pair of scissors, Measuring tape, Marker.
Let the pictures do the talking. Hope you like it.
Thanks for the inspiration! The rubber mats in my Laura were getting pretty worn - the one on the driver's side was in tatters. I was considering a 3d mat alternative on eBay, but was unsure of the durability. Also, the seller did not have a cash on delivery option and there were no reviews for the "POKOMOKO" brand he was hawking.

I happened to be in Tippassandra yesterday and while I could not find a beige version, I found a tasteful grey After about 30 minutes of measuring and cutting, primarily to accommodate for the floor anchored accelerator pedal in my Laura DSG, I am pretty pleased with the results.

I bought 20 sq ft for Rs. 1,500 and have spare material left over for one more iteration on the driver's side, which should come in handy, given the wear it goes through.

Regards,
BITF

There isn't a shread of information online for a Delhi store nor do any of the regular car-accessory stores know about it.

Hello dinu2506 ,
you have done an excellent job regarding the cutting and fitting in to the car, but ,i have a doubt , would the cleaning of the mats be a problem ? Now that you have mentioned its name is noodle mat , wont gravel, muck and other smaller particles get stuck inside and be difficult to remove it and clean?

Re: DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats

Posting the pics of the work done on the WagonR.
Got 20 sq.ft of greyish black colour.
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-mat_roll.jpg

On conservative mode, avoided the extra bit which goes into the front foot well. I save around 2 sq.ft.
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-mat_front_shape.jpg

Finished product of front driver side mat.
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-fornt_driver_mat.jpg

Front Mat in place. Made sure i had extra bit to slip it under the gear console(Arrow mark).
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-front_mat_inplace.jpg

Rear of wagonR is not flat. The rear floor is a raised platform and the area under the front seats is a well kind where all the dirt gets accumulated. Please look at the pic below of the pathetic displaced old mats
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-old_rear_mats.jpg

Finished rear mats. I couldn't get exact pattern of rear with news paper. Just got the outer dimensions, then kept the mat in place, made the markings and did the cut. No seperate piece for the hump.
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-rear_mats.jpg

Rear mats in place. Made sure had extra bit on both the mats over the hump. One will rest on the other.
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-rear_mat.jpg
DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats-rear_mat1.jpg

I used only 16 sq.ft of the mat roll.

P.S. : Keep in mind to use the mirror image(upside down) of the paper cutting on the reverse on the mat for markings. One could easily end up cutting the other way.

Thanks to dinu2506 once again for inspiring me. Will be doing the same for duster next week.

Cleaning is easy, just take out the mat and and overturn it. All the muck will come out.

Re: DIY - 3M Nomad-Style Floor Mats

Changed the floormats of my i20 to the Noodle-mat. Getting the exact dimensions was indeed a pain. Since this was a first-attempt, kindly excuse the imperfections.

Pics:

The Passenger side:

The Driver side:

The rear-floor mats: ( they were initially a single piece, but later modified so that they overlap)

The front-mats:

The remaining mat was also put to good use!

Thank you Dinu2506 and vaisakhr for the inspiration!
