Hi all,
A small update. The Borivali - Pune (Swargate) Shivneri service is now routed through JVLR and Powai. (Most of them)
The Hiranandani BEST bus stop (opp. Café Mangi) is the official pick up point. MSRTC has stuck flyers on the bus stop regarding this info. Even if you have not booked a ticket in advance, you can flag down these buses and board from this bus stop. |
Where would the bus stop at Powai lake on the Pune- Mumbai side and vice versa?
PS- I had travelled from Pune to Mumbai via Powai and they had stopped right before the signal at Powai lake (before Jugheads).

So now, they will not be going via Vakola / Sion ? Do you have any confirmed information on this ? |
As I said in my post, most of them, not sure if all Borivali Shivneri are diverted via Powai. They have put up a timetable as well but missed reading it.

Yes. That's the stop I am talking about. Opposite Café Mangi.

Hi. It is not so. The Shivneri Volvos plying via Sion--WEH still have a major share even after Powai route was introduced. Out of 24 Volvo schedules from Swargate, Pune to Borivali , Mumbai everyday, 9 of them ply via Powai and rest 15 via the popular Sion--WEH route. I am a Shivneri fan follower :)
With the arrival of these new Volvos and Scania into MSRTC fleet, the frequency between Pune and Mumbai has been increased to a whopping 158 schedules by the day, each and everyday (158 in just one direction i. e Pune to Mumbai and an equal number from Mumbai to Pune)
I am eagerly waiting for the Shivshahi AC fleet of buses to be launched pan Maharashtra by MSRTC
Read in newspaper few days ago, there was some talk of introducing Double decker Shivneri buses.Just imagine travelling in one of them during monsoon's in ghats clap:
Shivneri has seen a price hike, tickets are now Rs 446( Dadar to Pune Station ) , which is quite a lot compared to Semi-luxury Hirkani bus, which has equally good seats but no AC ( Tickets cost Rs 216 ).
They should also try introducing Business class buses, I mean Volvo buses with wide seats + recliners in 2+1 configuration, with extra features attached like Video screen, on board dining, Home pickup, Home Drop etc.

On a side note, we had stopped on our way for food and another Shivneri Volvo had joined in. Check out the kilometers on this thing! :Shockked: Attachment 1533818 |
Just wow!:Shockked:
But that translates around 4 years of use. Consider 200 kms one way distance from Pune to Mumbai and vice versa. On an average, the bus can lap up 1 return journey and 1 single journey (my assumption is 4 hours one way, so 12 hours use in all as the bus will be operated continuously with change of guard).
So effectively 600 kms per day.
Almost 1260 days of operation (Total KM/Per day KM).
Effectively, considering breakdowns, 4 years of use.
On a lighter note, I would like to be the tyre supplier to this bus as it is running on concrete and has such high mileage stupid:

7 Lakhs is nothing for these buses. Almost all of KaSRTCs Volvos cross the 14lakh mark quite some time back. I recently traveled to Ooty in a KaSRTC Volvo B9R - it had recorded 9.9 lakhs when we started from Bangalore. And these buses operate around 600kms per day on an average, while their Mumbai buses operate closer to 1K kms per day :Shockked:

Yep on recent trip spotted this Shivneri Volvo which had crossed 10L! But it was in a terrible condition. The door would only open partially when the switch was pressed, the driver would then leave his seat and then open it fully by hand! :Shockked:
Thankfully all the ones which i've got for my weekend Aurangabad trips haven't crossed more than 200K kms and are in great shape so far. The only irony is so far in every Shivneri i've sat the Check Engine light was always on and this one with 10L doesn't seem to have any engine issue! lol:
But i think the Check Engine light is mostly a farce in these Volvo's, we had finished a 10 hour journey with the Check Engine light on from Aurangabad and the bus was supposed to do another Aurangabad trip in another 2 hours 30 minutes. The Check Engine light was being convieniently ignored.

I don't see any Check Engine Light in the image. Can you share any image which shows the CEL on?
Sure.
I don't think there has ever been a time where i travelled Dadar-Aurangabad and the Check Engine light wasn't lit on any of these buses. Yet all of them do the 10 hour trip without any niggles.
This check engine light on reminds me of a Big Bang Theory episode where Sheldon keeps commenting on Penny's car that has the check engine light on and she replies the engine is fine and the light is broken. Sheldon replies he doesn't see a Check the Check Engine light light. A few seasons later, Penny's car fails.:D
MSRTC has launched ''Ashwamedh'' SCANIA multiaxle seater service on
Pune (Shivajinagar) -- Chandrapur route via Nagar- Aurangabad- Jalna-Yavatmal (733 kms one side)
Fare - 1688/- Online reservation available ; apparently this bus is wi-fi enabled

I was thinking of the same!! The fares have gone up almost 2.5 times since i remember taking this bus for around Rs.180 a few years ago! It just doesn't make financial sense to take this bus if you are traveling as a family. I plan in advance now and switched to trains - the fare is still around Rs.98 until Thane and the risk of getting stuck on the expressway is zero. :D
They won't find takers for such a luxury service and i don't think they can pull it off! The buses just aren't kept in great condition after a few months! Besides, i can't imagine this clientele really opting for buses esp. the fare will be almost as good as hiring an Innova to Mumbai.
