Shivneri Bus Services : Dadar - Pune - Dadar

I gather MSRTC have Volvo B9R termed as Aswamedh from Pune to Mumbai. Though I am not able to get any time table or other information on them from MSRTC online booking website.
Last time I drove in expressway on my car I remembered one deep maroon colored Volvo B9R crossing me in the opposite direction with MSRTC logo on the side. Could not able to read the destination sigh. Any one has any information or any review.

Short review of Pune - Borivali 10-30 AM service.

Bus left dot on time from Swargate bus stop. 15 Minute break at Lonavala food plaza. Dropped at Bandra Railway station at 2:40 PM, estimated time was 1:30 PM (4 hours).
They mentioned on their website, that bus will reach Wakad at 10:50 (are you serious), bus reached Wakad at 11:30.

Bus is old, yes visibly old. Seats are already started giving up, though push back works. Cost 520/- including the web booking surcharges etc. I feel being a ST, charging more than private Volvo service is bit weird, especially when you have old and not so maintained buses.

Driving was sedate, no hard breaking no sudden acceleration. Anyway enjoyed the bus ride after a long gap (may be after more than 5 years).

@PetrolRider, the timetable as well as online reservations for this service (Dadar - Pune railway station) are available on the msrtc website (https://public.msrtcors.com). You need to search using stops Dadar East (DDRE) and Pune Rly. Stn. (PNESTN).

I traveled by Shivneri from Goregaon to Pune yesterday, here is the short report.

I had not reserved a seat, since my plans firmed up really late. So I just checked the time table, and went to Goregaon check naka. The bus arrived some 15 min later than scheduled, but you can always blame it on traffic (it was Borivali - Swargate). The bus was old, and had a nagging, continuous rattle in the passenger cabin, from the rear end. However, it was FAST!

Here is the best part, though. After a 30-min break at the Khalapur food plaza, we started the climb, and the driver stopped the bus at the first turn itself, citing 'engine overheated'! Fortunately, another Shivneri (Thane - Swargate) reached the spot within 10 min, and it had enough empty seats to accommodate all the passengers from our bus! We were on our way within 15 min.

This would not have been possible with any private operator!!

This is the foremost reason I always take the Shivneri buses. The drivers are way more disciplined then the private operators. Even on the e-way they hardly do rash driving or cut lanes.

I once had a misfortune of travelling in a private volvo to Kolhapur from Mumbai and the schumi inspired driver did the distance in 5 and 1/2 hours.

A scary night indeed. Post this incident I have split my Mumbai Kolhapur journies via Swargate. Take the Borivali - Swargate Shivneri and then take the Swargate - Kolhapur shivneri service.

It's below the London Pilsner flyover on the pune highway. Just ask for 'LP' and people will guide you there.
It's about 1km before DY Patil stadium coming from Thane side.

Very recently spotted a Scania bus operating in Shivneri's fleet. I love the designs on the Scania v/s the Volvo. While Volvo remains ahead of the game with their first mover advantage, Scania doesn't seem to far off in playing catch up.

I got a chance to travel on a Scania to Mumbai.These buses are speed locked and maintain a speed of 85kmph. They are a tad narrow than the Volvo.Found them to be comfortable but not much as the Volvos since I guess these buses are designed to operate in short distances.

Is there is a Shivneri bus which passes through Chembur and takes you to somewhere close to Magarpatta City. If not, any other bus? What is the earliest time in the morning? Where is the bus stop?

I think Swargate is the closest he/she can get to Magarpatta (10 kms from Swargate) if he/she wants to travel by Shivneri.

Pune Station is also the same distance, if intent is to go to Magarpatta.
In fact, travel from station to Magarpatta will have lighter traffic compared to Swargate-> MP.

Hi all,

A small update. The Borivali - Pune (Swargate) Shivneri service is now routed through JVLR and Powai. (Most of them)

The Hiranandani BEST bus stop (opp. Café Mangi) is the official pick up point. MSRTC has stuck flyers on the bus stop regarding this info. Even if you have not booked a ticket in advance, you can flag down these buses and board from this bus stop.

So now, they will not be going via Vakola / Sion ? Do you have any confirmed information on this ?
