rakeshnair14 - One of the KSRTC Super Deluxe buses (running Kottarakkara-Bangalore) met with an accident, and the workshop has brought it back to the original finish, as though nothing has ever happened. My guess is, the bus I'm talking about is the one you see beside the Palakkad-Bengaluru bus.
Binaiks, do you have any pics of RSC677?

Well mate , you see the TMT & BEST buses we are talking about are old City buses while , the snap uploaded by BINAIKS is an intercity bus. But , I have to accept that the chaps at KeSRTC have have a great job fabricating the front metallic facia of the bus.

And yes these are the ugly designs that are totally extinct except in Maharashtra & even I am in favor of the fact that these need to go.

Dear Sirs, I accept that I have exaggerated my statement that its impossible to fabricate a aesthetic metallic front facia. The chaps at KeSRTC have really done a great job with the front facia of this Intercity bus.

However after having worked with few STUs & Body Fabricators closely, I would still say that fabricating an all metallic front facia is time consuming & tiring as compared to FRP FF ,as it includes tireless hammering, brazing, spot welded to execute something like this KeSRTC design.

STUs like NMMT, BEST, KDMT,MBMT,TMT ,PMPML in Maharashtra used to prefer divided partition type windshields in their front facia (Unlike the single laminated pasted/rubber fitted windshield shown in KeSRTC IC bus) , for which they were ready to compromise with aesthetic , however slowly but steadily this culture is changing & we are getting to see buses with better looks these days.

Other than this the STUs also emphasize of the maintenance factor as the turn around time to repair & rectify a damage or a dent on this boxy metallic design is less compared to the FRP ones.

I saw a snippet of another tender issued by BMTC, which has the following requirements:
1 Standard size Urban non AC midi Bus with Floor Height of 650 mm fitted with Diesel BS-IV engine
2 Standard size urban bus of 400mm floor height premium segment AC buses
3 Standard size Urban AC midi Bus with Floor Height of 650 mm fitted with Diesel BS-IV
4 AC Articulated Buses
5 AC Electric Hybrid Buses

It can be found that #2 exactly matches the specs of Volvo 8400 BS-4.
For #3, will the Tata Ultra range fit the bill? Are there other options, apart from the Ultra?

For #4, does AL or Volvo have any offerings? The clause for engine location is funny: Front in the tractor module and rear in the trailer module of articulated bus - do they expect two separate engines???

Will this fit for # 4 ?
Starbus Urban 9/18 FE – Articulated Bus

The Starbus Urban 9/18 FE – Articulated Bus with its single deck and two sections carries more passengers, retains the maneuverability needed in urban transportation. The FE Articulated bus is a solution to reduce traffic congestion.

Guess they've come for demo. KeSRTC should be inviting tenders for JnNURM-II shortly. They would also be releasing a "mega" tender shortly, including a good number of Air-suspension chassis for Super Express/Super Deluxe buses.

Unlike TN RTCs, Ker RTC will never allot the tender to just one OEM. Hopefully they do the same, ie split the order with two or more. Eicher could be a contender this time along with AL and TM. I was surprised there are no Mini/Midi buses included in this tender.

It does! Good to see this coming from TM.

Looking at the second picture, the bus does seem to have the AMT.

Jan bus is available only with AMT. Reiterating, it should only be with AMT if at all it needs to qualify under UBS2.
