Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

Does Mercedes Benz bus have a higher (passenger seats) seating position than Volvos?
Also tyres are fatter in benz - 315/R22 at front and 295 R 22 rear.

Do all STU have buses without keys? ie do buses start with button for all STU buses?
Read in papers tommorow for news related to Pune and you all will know the reason behind this Query.

Mercedes does not have a higher seats nor a wider tyres at front.
For that matter no coach currently available in india comes with 315 section tyres.

All Multi axles can have max passenger capacity upto 53(excluding 9400PX).

If you are speaking about older legacy buses, they have a ignition key but to crank the bus you will have a button..

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

Saw this new variant of branding from BMTC running near Silk Board - Pushpak + Eco. This version seems to have new decals but the body build is in the lines of the silver Suvarna class buses with the same 2+2 seat configuration and not the red/ blue new buses recently introduced (pics in prev pages). The bus is BS4 compliant and has Viking labelling back after a long time. However was not able to capture the coach maker name.

sorry, if already posted.
Thanks for posting. Brings back memory of Bangalore in the 80's . The double deckers were almost similar to the one in this video and most of the BTS buses were Leylands as well.
I remember the different design of the radiator grille as well . Wonder if they had different names like, Cheetah, Viking back then or it was just a different grille.

This one is built by BMTC Central Workshop, Shantinagar. These buses have single door - at the middle of the bus. Earlier Pushpak buses were a pain for passengers, since they had single door, at the front, and most often were operated with only a single crew (Driver doubling up as the conductor as well).

Did it have 2x2 seating? Pushpak buses usually have 2x3 seating.

BS-IV Volvo 8400 with BMTC

A BMTC Volvo 8400 with BS-IV spec., probably awaiting introduction into any of the schedules, at the Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic).

Oh; so these are BS IV spec buses?

I saw 2 of them on the Airport route on Sunday and was wondering what was different. They were/are Volvos but seemed different in colour and sticker styling.

They don't seem to be under Jnnurm. Anything that is structurally and technically (apart from BSIV compliance) different in these buses from the Volvos so far?

Structurally, no
Technically, yes. A little bit. The Euro-IV/BS-IV 8400LE uses SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) to achieve emission compliance. Apart from the addition of SCR, it's same as before. The same 290bhp D7E Deutz engine with 1200Nm torque.

Saw a volvo with TEST VEHICLE sticker and the whole body was plastered with white tape near Whitefield. Sounded a little different.

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

On my way to work today I spotted a very different looking MTC bus (route # 54T) near Porur today. It was a TN67N registration and featured very different bodywork compared to the regular fleet. Anyone else seen this bus? Couldn't take pictures due to traffic though.

Saw the same today too. Followed it from Koramangala to Sarjapur Road. Looks like the Volvo Hybrid. Like you said, it sounded different & it had absolutely NO emissions what so ever.

Volvo had announced a Semi-Low floor city bus (7400 SLF??). Perhaps this could be that one as well - this was supposed to be a low cost option.
