Have seen them working in Kochi - the conductor often uses it to signal the driver to stop (especially if he is at the back issuing tickets).

That's quite good to know. Hope one day it'll be passengers who'll take the initiative instead of the conductor.

I think the 'Stop request' would work well in buses where there is only the driver and no conductor. I remember the Pushpaks in BMTC didn't have any conductors. Not sure of the situation now (over 5 years since I travelled by bus in Bangalore)

That's exactly the situation for which such a button was designed. I believe it's the case in other countries where low-floor buses are widespread.

I mentioned about the Tata and Ashokleyland buses. wrt DTC its a part of their tender that the buses need to have stop request, No matter they have conductor or not.

Is the kerala trasnsport buses fitted with ABS. Just check the photo attached You can see that its writteb "FITTED WITH ABS" on the ksrtc bus.

Only very few buses were fitted with ABS. RNM 31 Fast Passenger, RNA 32, 37 and 38 Superfast (all Tata) and RNA 70 and 75 Leylands had ABS. The new 12 meter Leyland Super Express are all ABS and Air suspension vehicles

I remember seeing "Fitted with ABS, for your safety" on the windshields of the then newly launched "Hi-Tech" SF buses in early 2000s (AL Vikings with Irizar and Harsha built bodies).

And their replacements haven't been sporting this sticker, so I thought it was standard across all buses. Or am I wrong here?

Finally, safety is a cool thing to boast about. It's better than seeing Dolby Surround Sound, Laser, Smoke Show etc. on private tourist buses here in Kerala.

sometime in 2002, I've seen about three private buses operated by Saranya motors ,Kottarakkara towards Ernakulam and Idukki districts, fitted with ABS on AL Cheetah.

Although the TATA does look spacey, it's not enough to tempt me. This, however, is http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/commer...s-segment.html I'm not sure if it's come out yet. All I know is that I'm just waiting to try it out. I might actually be tempted to "Go Green" and hitch a ride on this slightly more luxurious mode of public transportation.

KSRTC has launched the much awaited City Service buses in Kochi. Kochi sity is dominated by private buses. There are more than 700 buses operating presently. As of now, 50 KSRTC buses have hit the roads. most of them are Tata 1512 buses built at Aluva, Central and Mavelikara Workshops of KSRTC. There are also some Ashok Leyland Viking buses built by Edappal workshop of KSRTC.

These buses are named "Thiru Kochi". But the name does not have any connection with the city of Kochi. This was the name of Kerala State before 1 Nov 1956, after the merger of Travancore and Cochin princely states. I wonder why KSRTC opted this name. There were so many other names related to Cochin.

KSRTC has to work very hard to compete with private buses. They cannot do much with 50 buses, against the 700 odd private buses. Anyway, this is good, as a start.

So, for RNx NNN, A is for Aluva, M is for Mavelikkara, E is for Edappal and C is for central Workshop (Pappanamcode, I presume)?

Some other info - Kochi has not seen any new permits since 1992. The population has increased, the area has changes, passenger traffic and travel patterns have changed. But the permits have remained same.

Even in 1989, when my bus was operational, People would be getting in up to Palarivattom, and after Padma or Menaka, the bus would be empty, till South / Deepa theater. In the opposite direction, people would get in up to Thoppumpady and would get off starting from Pallimukku up to Menaka / Padma. People would board starting from Boat Jetty / Shenoys up to Kaloor. "getting off" starts from Palarivattom.

Nowadays, Buses entering the city from Kalamassery (Aluva / Eloor / Pookkattupady) are empty from Palarivattom. Only passengers are enderly, students and ladies.

I would have been happy if KeSRTC started some services directly connecting the suburbs without entering the city's heart. Like

• Aluva - Kakkanad via Edappally & palarivattom; also via CUSAT, Pookkattupady, etc. (at least 4 different routes are possible)
• Chittoor - Kakkanad / Chittoor Aluva / Chittoor - Edappally - Cheranelloore - Chittoor Circular
• Fort Cochin - Valanjambalam - Vytilla - Kundanoor - Halt (the one on W. Island) - Thoppumpady circular
• Thrippunithura - Aluva - via Info park and Kakkanad
• Panangad - Vytilla - Valanjambalam - Thevara - Kundanoor - Panangad circular via W. Island / Naval Base
• Kannamaly - Fort Cochin - Thoppumpady - Aroor Thuravoor - Kannamaly - Circular (thuravoor - Aroor is not considered city service right now).A possible alternative here is Via Kumblanghi once the new bride at Ezhupunna is finished).
• Manjummel - Edayar - Pathalam - Aluva - Kalamassery - Edappally - Manjummel circular.
• Chottinakkara - Thalayolaparambu - Vaikom - Poothotta - Nadakkav - Mulamthuruthy - Chottinakkara Circular (at least 3 possible routes).
• Mini buses on Panampalli nagar - Thevara - Malayala Manorama route
• Mini Buses on Elamakkara - Kaloor - Edappally circular route

• Mini buses on Chittoor - Kaloor - Edappally route

Any chance that these suggestions could be brought to attention of KeSRTC authorities? That is enough ammunition for at least 100 buses.
