Well, I for one always find a Cadillac the most pleasing to the eye. And again, how about the Impalas and Caprices?:)

i agree about Cadillac. even i like Lincoln MKS. but Ford and GM, they always make good designs for Europe and Boxy, ugly for America. i hate American Ford Fiesta.

.

Not anymore. After Mullaly joined Ford, he has gone about at integrating all their designs from around the world. Many Ford America's cars are now the same as the ones in Europe. For example, the recently launched Focus is the same for North America and Europe.

Like you said though, I too like their Lincoln line-up.

2. HCVs need to have very low GC. Errr.. this is not "low GC"; but "under run" protection - ot prevent smaller vehicles going under the wheels in case of collission. It is very unfortunate that in India, we mandate only front and rear under run protection; and not side under run protection.

i am talking about this truck for india. it will take minutes to break down when this thing will run over potholes, bumps & flooded streets during monsoon. everything is not ideal for the indian market, even makers like volvo, merc, nissan, daewoo are producing trucks for india which has high GC.

the thing about collision is very true but also have a look at our infrastructure.

This is what two Tata Hitachi Backhoe's fitted with hammer attachment have accomplished in 15 days just behind my Building in Andheri East.

The Neptune engine is developed inhouse, I believe. A very good thing, indeed; but interesting none the less as I read once a top official at AL rubbishing the need to develop indigenous engines stating that there was no need to reinvent the wheel.

These engines were developed at the right time where the market is ripe.

Traditionally ALL is good? in making engines as they have tuned the older Leyland engines which are produced from 50's, from E0 to EIII. Even in 2005 when India moved to Euro II with 11 cities with Euro III ALL launched Euro III much earlier than TML.

Things changed so much since 50's. Now customers and CV builders got more choices. Do you think AL engines could compare with the international heavy weights Cummins, International, paccar (whenever becomes available in India). These companies are specialists and spend huge R&D budgets. I think it is better for AL to follow what TM/Eicher did, start to build engines based on technologies from OEMs than reinventing the wheel. That is what AL tried with Hino engines. Again Hino is a CV manufacturer with own engines, not just an Engine manufacturer.

agree: with you and I believe ALL is in the right track. with development of Hino engines under license from Hino motors now they have developed Neptune series completely inhouse.
ALL engines are in the verge of phasing out with U-Trucks being available with Hino and Neptune series only.
One thing I am not clear. Why tata is not into making their engines and they solely rests on Cummins.

Not to reinvent the wheel i guess. They could spend the R&D money elsewhere and improve the overall product. Same reason VECV is not making any engines. Also the modern engines are more complex, so leave it to the specialists.....

Doesn't Daewoo make engines? They bought Daewoo.

Besides TCL is a 50-50 JV and Tata is not under Cummins' mercy.
