Re: The Heavy Trucks thread

Spotted these Tata LPT 3118Cs recently on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway. These trucks run the routes for the Andhra Pradesh Sand Mafia... during the daytime 50% of the commercial vehicle traffic on this highway are Tata 3118Cs.

During the nightime they OWN the highway, as many as 800-3000 of these heavy haulers hustle sand from the dry parts of the Krishna river to Hyderabad. It really is a sight to see at night, convoys are so long you could mistake them for Aussie road trains!

Absolutely Sir you have no idea how big a success the Tata LPT 3118C was in Andhra. Even the TML CV regional sales manager himself said A.P. sales exceeded forecasts.

I think the most epic failure of all time in this heavy segment was the Eicher though. I cant speak for the entire country but from what I've seen in Andhra, Eicher's venture into the high side of the heavy hauling industry has been disastrous.

During the trip I took, I've seen roughly 400-500 30+ Ton trucks of which 3 or 4 were Eicher Hercules makes.

I can't say the scenario is any different for Mahindra! Maybe it's just the region I was in but if I had to put it in a nutshell, in A.P, it's either TML or ALL. They have a kingdom if I had to say something about their market share here!

Re: The Heavy Trucks thread

Even among ALL and TML, from the pics you have attached, I am surprised to see that it is TML which is more prominent in the 31ton sector. Very surprised to see TML succeed over Leyland in the south, even more so as Leyland introduced a 31tonner before Tata did.

1. Those trucks are for moving construction material, after all!!!

2. But, why are they using National Permit vehicles for intra state transport??? I can say with some degree of authority that national permit rules prohibit use of NP vehicles for intra state movement.

As per Section 88 (12) of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988

"The vehicle shall not pick up or set down goods between two points
situated in the same State other than the home State".

Spotted two "Garbage Compactors", mounted on VECV 20.16 BS3 chassis, on its way to Trivandrum.
Also a new AL UTruck (tractor) in Cochin on its way to ICTT Vallarpadam.

Re: The Heavy Trucks thread

For once the yellow front rule makes a truck look nice. The owner I think made a choice so that it would look good with the yellow front.

Had seen these trucks near Kalamassery last week. Why are they registered in Kochi if they are meant for Trivandrum? Any ideas?

I was expecting Kochi would get some of these - we'd atleast be spared of the fragrance when the stuff is being transported.

Re: The Heavy Trucks thread

Just noticed something, on the U-truck above, are those single piece wheels, or standard split rim ones which have been painted silver??
