Agree VEA, With all the additions especially with the 4 cyl. TDi engine it will easily cost more than 4 lacs. But guessing that it will be shorter than 4 meters and having a 1.4 deisel engine it will enjoy lower excise duty benefits.

Magic is not considered as a family vehicle. A no-frill rural commuter. The vibration is very high with the 4-stroke engine. But much better compared to 8-10 seater rear engined autorickshaws (is it Vikram) it supposed to compete against.
So if the Pelican is meant for Family, I guess, it can not be an upgrade, but a different vehicle on the same platform with more bells and whistles. We really need a Mini Van for the weekend family trip and hope Tata could deliver one.

Tata tie up was with G.E.M a division of Chrysler. Tata ACE did/will not pass the US crash tests and hence not meant for Highway use. It is mainly for use with in Parks/Zoos/Campuses etc, Not a volume market. But Europe and Latin America are possibilities. I believe they tried out Electric ACEs in Spain recently.

Nice Scoop! But I do not think it will be a direct competition to OMNI. It may create a new market like Tata Ace did, especially in the rural market. Lets wait and watch!!

@teamveevee

AFAIK, today's TATA Ace runs on a ~700cc two cylinder diesel engine. this is an exact half of the orignal NA diesel engine found under the hood of previous generation indica.

I believe Ace EV was intended for USPS local fleet. But still, I read an old article in hindu business line that Ace has passed crash tests. But that article was also old and no updates in the past year. So, the deal might very well be off. Now that Chrysler is owned/controlled by FIAT, the deal could be revived if Ace EV exists and is upto the mark.

Thanks Trapezio, Not bad, Proven engine. You mean the old generation Indica, or the Indica Vista?.

Thanks pb10gagan. I am sure Tata wont be using this 2 Cylinder in the Mini Van if it is targeted for the families..

Excellent scoop tushky. i don't know what to say. If this is based on the Ace platform then it may not be in direct competition with the Omni as far as the family space is concerned, but it could definitely spell trouble for the Omni in the commercial space.

1405 cc 70bhp reads like the TDI version of the Indica engine than anything else (did duty on the Indica Turbo , 2nd gen Indigo etc (not manza of course))
It still services the Indica Vista TDI.That version generates 71 bhp(as claimed
by Tata in their ads).

This was a winner always. I remember another discussion where we were wondering when such an adaptation would be released by Tata.

Tushky- nice to have you back

already saw something like this yesterday, being used as a school bus. Had stickers of 4x4 on it which made me laugh into pieces. Didnt take pics as it seemed like some different version of Ace. Looks like something which this thread is talking about, let me see, if I can spot it again.
