The finest example of this phenomenon can be seen in Palakkad and Coimbatore bus stands. People wait for KSRTC buses, and leave the TN buses, especially SETC buses. This can be observed late at night too. Come festival season, and then all buses will be crowded

Is this a daily service (OR) touring package?? It should be around 1500Kms one way and not sure if this route is on demand.

Totally agree. Chennai division seems to run the most pathetic buses.
But, they have started replacing the old ones. IIRC, Bangalore - Kalpakkam route now have a brand new bus. It's also a 44-seater (or 41?).

Thanks! Wonder if people will be willing to travel this distance in a bus. I think it will take around 20-24 hours to cover this distance.

Good to know. Hope they maintain it properly, else after couple of months it will be the same story again.

On the same chassis? This would mean there won't be *any* leg room at all.
The older ones had 34 seats and had oodles of space.

New Ultra deluxe buses of SETC were built using AL's 12M chasis. Older UD's had 36 seats.

This will be via Pune,Mumbai and the GJ cities enroute to Ahmedabad. This way VRL can look at Bangalore-Mumbai and Mumbai-Ahmedabad routes as well. Also ,I remember reading somewhere that VRL has also got permits for carrying parcels on this route .These will be some heavy B9Rs for sure.

If these buses dont waste time entering Mumbai ( Sion ) or Borivali ,then we might be looking at a faster service .
Bang-Mum can be done in around 15 hours and add another 6-7 hours to Ahmedabad. Not bad considering a train journey will take around 35 hours for sure .

VRL should ensure that these buses dont waste time in entering cities like Pune ,Mumbai .

I mentioned this somewhere before and I am mentioning this again. The omnibus lobby in TamilNadu is very much alive and kicking, and from this picture it seems to me that they have the blessings of some people in the state government, particularly SETC.

Private inter-city runners are a big hit in south india, including TN.
But, compared to other state run transport corporations, one can vouch that SETC is the worst.

Having said that, times are changing now. They have sent out a tender notice for online reservation system (yes, SETC doesn't have one ) and they have started courier service in Coimbatore section, to make some revenue.

Yes, this might be true. Also, this could be the reason why they are not introducing Volvo buses for long routes.

Govt Bus or KPN?

This is the condition of the KPN travels bus running between Chennai - Pollachi.
Its a 12M bus, which is converted to NAC as initially it was a AC.
The condition of the bus is pathetic. Too many noise. rattles and I should shell out a premium for this bus as its a KPN - My fate as I dont have any other bus for my convenient time.
