Nice thread and nice pics of cars too. The good old Fiats/Premier padmini's/Ambys are in full force in WB and MH. How about some pvt taxies?
Hey Anjan very interesting thread indeed. Request all TBHPians upload photos of diiferent models of cars used as taxis in different parts of India. By the way, when did taxi service was started in India?

And some Radio Taxis/Meru cabs too :)
India is a wonderful place!
Yesterday, I saw a retro Palio as a coolcab in Pune (Blue and Silver). Could not click a pic while driving.
I tried to check the rear badge from the ORVM to see whether it was Petrol or Diesel but could not make out.
This is the only retro Palio that I saw till now being used as a cab. Though, Have seen quite a few Stile's 1.1 being used as cabs (not taxis)
Love this thread, love seeing taxi cabs. Live in NYC, and it was always the Ford Crown Victoria's (you may know them as the police cars here) but now with the fuel prices, Ive started to see smaller cars, even saw a VW Jetta taxi the other day, now we have Toyota's, Nissans, Chevy , Malibus, the Lexus RX 350 Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrids. The Crown Vics are still the most used yellow cabs in the city.
How come all the pics here are of taxis in good condition? Where are they???!!! I always seem to find the worst one!
We should also post pics of modded taxis! I love the way they take pride to decorate their cabs with glitters, chrome, wood dashboard, hubcaps, windshield cap, green disco lights, and the raunchy stickers!

Thats nothing, have you heard of a Ferrari,Bentley and even a Lambo "Taxis"? We have some of those in India, and you though NYC was supercool lol:
Few of the taxi's seen in Bangalore
Easy Cab,Meru Cabs,Citi taxi,Red Innova(airport taxi, not sure) and the prepaid taxi. There are few indigo's also as airport taxi. The citi taxi is either an Omni or an Indica.
A sea of taxis for you, my taxi smitten friend!:D
Good Topic.
Now a days we do see newer AMby's for Cool Cabs on Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai and Mumbai-Nasik-Shirdi routes. But since the new rule of phasing out old ones has come into effect now, many other smaller cars and mostly Santro's newer and older are very rapidly getting converted into Taxi's here in Mumbai, not to forget 800's, Omni's, Esteems and Altos and some Palios as well as Sienas.
The most rare cabs which i have seen in Mumbai so far are SX4 and Swift Cool Cabs with blue body and silver tops.
the kolkata taxis look better because they dont have horrible stickers and aftermarket accesories like those of mumbi taxis
BTW nice to see a yellow fiat taxi it must be one of the few ones in kolkata as most as ambys
Wow, as far as I see, the Mumbai Fiats have nice Whitewall tyres on them. Are they easily available in Mumbai?

Yes. They are easily available and are mostly used by cabs and an assortment of vintage vehicles. I used to have them on my 118NE as well.
