This truck is not laden.

Wheels are at an angle, probably to compensate for tons of load. That load should correct this angle.

Even diesel autos tires are at a angle.once they are under load it becomes straight.

It appears like the truck has independent suspension at every wheel and the arm pivots around a central point on the chassis. When loaded the wheel will straighten.

Watch some amazing youtube videos of these Tatras. The way each wheel tracks the surface is a delight to watch. Its like a centipede in action

its done as a method of load bearing. when the truck is loaded the wheels bear down - and hence the road contact is better. you see the same on the greaves garuda autos as well.

But on the Tartra trucks (hope i got the spelling right) the wheels are bent like this so because they are self adjusting. I remember reading this in an Auto mag when they had just launched, the tech is that the wheels adjust to the terrain and then they are powered so that the truck can get out of sticky situations.

It's because of the independently swinging half axles on the rigid central backbone chassis

Rigid Tube Central Backbone
The Tatra suspension system has a rigid central "backbone" tube chassis

The Indian Armed Forces...Army/Navy/Airforce Vehicle Thread-tatrat8158x8.jpg

This prevents torsion or bending of the chassis and superstructure, thus assuring safe and trouble-free transport of the missile systems, sensitive loads and special superstructures.

Also facilitates long chassis life, high ride comfort and permits faster off-road driving.

The driveline shafts and other components are covered and protected inside the "backbone" tube.
Also the chassis can operate "frameless".
So certain bodies can be fixed directly to the chassis crossmembers

Independent Swing Axles
There are independent swing half-axles:
Each wheel can move up and down independently.

The Indian Armed Forces...Army/Navy/Airforce Vehicle Thread-kingframecombinationsuspension.jpg

This facilitates exceptional off-road mobility -- remarkably higher speed over obstacles
The swing half-axles are extremely resistant against impacts and shocks

Modular Component Design
The "modular" design gives a high degree of commonality between commercial and military models,
four-wheel-drive, six-wheel-drive, eight-wheel-drive and ten-wheel-drives.
It lets the designers customize for any wheelbase.

All side-axle and inter-axle differentials are lockable diffs.
Tatra military trucks also have a central tire inflation system (CTIS)

this is really sad.I have seen Pakistan's gun fixed bikes(looks like motocross ones!).and we are still on a 70 year old Enfield .even I own a bullet.but what is the use in a war with such a old hefty motorcycle?

this is a nice thread , the pictures really are good.

I have seen the 8x8 tatra trucks quite often on the ring roads in bangalore.

The Tatra vehicles are really a class apart ...
