Isuzu D-Max S-Cab Z launched at Rs 15 lakh

Isuzu has launched a new variant of the D-Max called the S-Cab Z. The crew-cab pick-up variant is priced at Rs 14,99,910 (ex-showroom).

The Isuzu D-Max S-Cab Z features an eagle-inspired chrome grille flanked by bi-LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and fog lamps at the front. It is equipped with roof rails, new design 6-spoke wheel covers and anti-skid side steps. The vehicle also gets chrome ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and chrome door handles.

Inside, the S-Cab Z variant gets a leather finish multi-function steering wheel, dual-tone upholstery with piano black trim and height-adjustable headrests. Isuzu has also provided a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 6 speakers and a rearview camera.

The D-Max S-Cab Z is powered by a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine that makes 78 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 176 Nm @ 1,500-2,400 rpm. The engine is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission, which drives the rear axle.

Re: Isuzu D-Max S-Cab Z launched at Rs 15 lakh

There is something about the D-Max that makes me want to own one. It's probably to do with the rugged looks or just the fact that it seems like a cool, no-nonsense truck!

I have one very noob query though:

Why does a truck meant to pull heavy loads, have such puny HP and torque figures? I'd be very grateful if someone could explain the logic behind this to me.

TIA!

Is it made specifically for the commercial segment ? The "cab" name, white colour, simple alloys and yellow number plate are some giveaways.

By the way, John Abraham's D-Max looks macho !

I am not sure on the reasoning behind this but the competition has similar specs.
Bolero pickup is at 58kw(77hp) and 220nm at 1400-2200rpm.

I would advice take a extensive test ride over bumpy roads before you put down your money on it, unless you plan on using its load carrying capacity frequently.

It had 135bhp and ~300nm at launch in 2014. Not sure if they detuned it to differentiate from the V-cross that had the same engine at that time or detuned for BS6 norms. Also heard somewhere that this 75bhp version is the same as the one in Chevrolet Tavera/Isuzu Panther.

I guess this version is just for the customers who would have bought the S-cab and would have added this features/accessories nevertheless. So why not give them a factory variant with all that they need. Especially with the GST era and changed driving license rules, driving an yellow plate vehicle is not much of a hassle as earlier.

No, thanks. I would rather buy the much cheaper Tata Xenon Yodha, and mod it

Mod this?

I guess the first mod would be fabricating a new bed.

The older Xenon XT was much better, quite rare in the used market. Produced almost twice as much power and torque at 2/3rd the price:

The secret is in the gearing. It's the torque at the wheel that counts. For load carriers such as these normally, the torque of the engine is amplified multifold through gearing. Ofcourse, the trade off is lack of readily available power.
