Tata Motors has showcased its range of commercial vehicles at the 2023 Auto Expo. Here's a look at what is on display.

Yodha pick-up truck that runs on CNG and has a paylod capacity of 1.8 tons:

New Winger features Tata Motors' Impact Design 2.0:








Tata Motors has displayed the Starbus Fuel Cell bus:




Seats 35 passengers + a driver and has a wheelchair-friendly entry / exit:


The Starbus Electric Bus as also been displayed. It has a 250kWH Lithium-ion battery pack and a 245 kW electric motor. The claimed range is more than 200 km. Fast charging time = 2 to 3 hours.

Features include LED headlamps, air suspension and regenerative braking:

Thank you for the coverage even of the commercial vehicles! I know they aren't as sexy as the passenger vehicles on show but I find it absolutely fascinating to see some of the products displayed.

Really interesting to see EV options not just for light city use trucks but going all the way up to the Prima range of tippers too! Not to mention a fuel cell truck hidden amidst it all too. Very interesting stuff. Will be curious to see just how much penetration Tata achieves with these greener options in the CV space, compared to the rip roaring success they're experiencing in the PV side. Those small EV trucks for city use just make too much sense to my mind. Especially if it solves the huffing and puffing of Ace's the moment they come up against an incline.

28 tonne electric truck??? I knew Tata was ahead of the EV game here in India but this is huge. This could be a game changer for intra city logistics. I love what they are doing.

Thanks for your special coverage of Tata Commercial Vehicles.

Eager to observe Tata's commercial line up (except Winger & Intra) in the EV segment despite knowing that Tata leads that space in the passenger car category. These lines suggest that there is some clear guidance from the government and other relevant organizations that India will equally rely on alternative sources of energy (electric, solar etc..) in the future.

Manufacturers of passenger cars have started to gradually discontinue their diesel variants is another indication.

Excited to read this. When the World was behind the hype of Tesla Semi ( the production of which keeps slipping ), Tata was silently working on multiple futuristic options for CVs. Really proud of seeing innovative product line from our home that are not western adoptions.

I was under the impression that all vehicles are powered by CNG and that natural gas is liquified (LNG) only to transport it across oceans in ships like this:

The advantage of LNG is that you get a lot more gas (and hence range) with the same size tank; you can do without multiple CNG cylinders which add to weight at the cost of freight.

Diesel, CNG, LNG, H2O ICE, H2O fuel cell, BEV. Anything left?

Wonder why TATA is still flogging the Winger? Even if it hard for them to develop a new van, why can't they reuse or buy the license for some 2000s/2010s international model?

Tata's approach of investing in all possible technologies does not look smart, they seem to trying to bite more than they can chew. They look more confused and less confident about where to invest, the problem also lies with govt which instead of giving a clear direction to the industry talks about CNG, LNG, H2 & flex fuel on different days.

I find it absolutely fascinating what Tata's managing in the commercial space, the interiors on the yodha look pretty on-par with any mass-market car, not to mention the plethora of EVs.
Will be looking forward to more developments regarding the same!
