Slightly OT- Dont worry about a silly comedy movie like Dhamaal. That entire scene was meant to be a joke- it is not a slur on the profession. Runway 34 was more focused on the pilot than the ATC I would say, and was a mish mash of old Western/Hollywood plotlines. By that token, the police need to take umbrage at almost every commercial movie that ever comes out in India.
What we do have is a situation where people in India are suddenly using aviation as a mass transport option, thanks to UDAN and other infra developments. I had mentioned a few months ago that we are experiencing growth pangs and all this media brouhaha about delayed flights, runway incursions, excursions, near misses and airport fights will be par for the course until our traveling public becomes more mature, if ever. Just yesterday we witnessed all the media reporting about worldwide airport delays and chaos where passengers were frustrated at everything, but the real reason simply couldnt be remedied by anyone except by Crowdstrike, a largely unknown entity in the general public realm until now.

Thanks. I understand your point of view. But my post was based on the public's general overview on ATC and on social media posts. Also, the media - the print media or TV media also has no clue and generally publish whatever rubbish they feel. There is no general awareness about ATC in public and how we work

Mumbai Airport warns of disruptions to SpiceJet operations in the coming days.

If you are a SpiceJet customer slated to fly on (August 13, 2024) or onwards, do keep a lookout for any disruptions. According to the airport operator, the airline might have trouble operating out of Mumbai Airport.

This could be a warning shot to get the airline to pay airport dues, which may not have been paid so far.

This advisory has been withdrawn now

SpiceJet flights to and from Mumbai airport are expected to be “temporarily disrupted” from Tuesday onwards, stated Adani group-run Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) on X on Monday.
However, MIAL, which runs the airport, deleted the tweet about an hour later.

Sources said MIAL made the announcement due to non-payment of dues by the airline. However, it reversed its decision after some backroom discussions with various stakeholders, including the airline.

If the government is really keen to expand aviation they must look at bringing ATF under GST and prioritize private airport operations for tier-2/3 cities. There is still too much emphasis on metro/trunk routes for profitability. In such situations, only airlines with scale can do better than others. And we NEED to avoid an airline duopoly at all costs.

I personally have zero sympathy for Spicejet. They may have suffered with the PW & 737M8 fiascos, but they cannot be allowed to spread their ‘sickness’ across the industry, be it to their own employees, airframe and engine lessors, airport operators, GoI (BCAS, CISF, DGCA etc.), ground handlers, F&B providers, MRO GST & IT authorities etc.).

This is eerily reminiscent of the KF & Jet fiascos. Let them go under if required.

Plane with tail strike continued to be in service. Wonder why it was not caught by service or technical ground crew.

Let us take all the comments reported in the media with a huge dollop of salt. I am not sure if there would have been such damage as to cause immediate depressurisation, however continued flights or improper repairs might have compromised the rear bulkhead pressurization, which could lead to structural problems in the fuselage at a later point in time.

Dear fhdowntheline, You have provided answer for the problem in hand (bold section), and yet taking the news with bucket load of salt .

VT-IBI also arrived at Delhi airport on September 9 with a damaged fuselage, which went unnoticed and the aircraft was cleared for the next flight to Bengaluru.

SpiceJet is back from the brink once again after yet another near collapse by getting Rs 3,000-crore funding from investors including mutual funds and is now aiming to have a fleet of 100 aircraft before the end of 2026.
Wish them the best . Indian aviation needs multiple airlines to be competing against the current duopoly.

Ok so thats not a good thing isn't it. My point was about how media quotes and interprets particularly in aviation matters.

Thank you for sharing.

Tail strikes can and often do cause internal injuries that may not be visible till they show up months or years later. It is quite possible that the flight crew sitting ~50 to 60 metres ahead did not hear or feel it. But the cabin crew sitting aft would have or should have. Indigo had a similar tail strike in 2023 and the DGCA audit found their engineering procedures to be seriously short of what is needed with reference to tail strikes. Seems they are consistent with their shortfalls.

IMHO the aircraft should not have been sent on a second flight after the tail strike one. Sometimes the damage is a microscopic crack that expands later on gradually with the pressurization-depressurization cycles and then explodes one day in mid-air. That is a lot of paint work missing to do unnoticed on the walk around check.

Re: Domestic Air Travel & Airlines | Reviews, Anecdotes, Advice, Cautions

My question is how the aircraft passed the pre-departure check by the first officer who does the walkaround the aircraft on the ground!?

I am sure, someone on the ground around the aircrafts- fuel loaders, food loaders would have noticed the scrape on the tail.
