Otherwise it can be considered as an upgradation of LPO1616.
Eitherway Tata seem to be very aggrasive about the bus segment for the past few years. Sources suggest, recently launched Supermilo LP1613, is performing well when compared with earlier 1510s. And introduction of radial tyres on these base models was surely a brave step.

With support of technology from Hispano & marcopolo tata's now are realy fast in responding to market needs. The present happenings suggest Tata could be a real threat to Leyland's dominance in bus segment.

Moreover Leyland has not been able to make much out of "Irizar" in the domestic market even though exports have gained. They still do not have branded fully built ready to use buses like Tata "Starbus" series.

hence tata is sure to gain.....
How come the exhaust pipe is on the left (in the LPO1618 BMP image)? Thats unusual isnt it?

Also, the 4018 and 4923 trucks and the Hispano buses are absent from the Tata Motors "Products in India" web site. The 4018 shows up (under Tractor-trailors), but when you click on its image, it doesnt expand nor does it show any detail.

I saw a 4923 on the roads about a year ago, once or twice. Whats the deal with these vehicles I wonder? Ghost vehicles?

Yes, Tata motor's website doesnt display any details about its CVs. I have seen less 4923s on the road (only 2, so far) than I have seen Novus'. But thats still two more than the number of AL 4921s I have spotted so far.
Seems like the 49-tonner class is completely dominated by AMW. Early entrant advantage ?

FYI: I saw the image of a nice Tata Hispano Globus at MOTORINDIA ONLINE EDITION

Unrelated question: About a year ago when I was in Mumbai, I have seen some Tata tippers (2516, I think) whose rear axles bore the standard "T" symbol at its center. But I have also seen some Tata tippers (same model, but mostly with a blue colored load body) whose rear axles bore the Ashok Leyland kind of symbol on the axle [viz. a dot within parenthesis, as in (.)]. Has anyone notices these different axle kinds? Different vendors? Whats the deal with this? Just curious.

Volvo 9400 in KSRTC

Thee is a news report today ( TOI ) that KSRTC ( karnataka ) has acquired 30 Volvo 9400 luxury buses.

It also says they will acquire only 9400s in future .

this Should make KSRTC the biggest owner of 9400s in India now , by a long stretch.

More Volvos with KSRTC - Bangalore - Cities - The Times of India

would be interesting to see the timing 9400s can do in Mumbai - bangalore stretch compared to earlier volvos.

Obvious! Volvo is making only 9400s now! You don't get older versions of B7R any more, and all buses made on the B7R platform are sold with the badging Volvo 9400.

Since 9400 is not a separate model as such, does this make sense? In any case, KSRTC is the single largest operator of Volvo buses in India - by a very far margin.

I don't think there would be a difference since KSRTC were using Mark-III volvos on this route earlier. Volvo 9400 and B7R Mark-IIIs shared the same engine - the 290hp CRDi engine.

For those interested in seeing how a KSRTC 9400 looks like.... here you go...

The press note says " The new buses are fitted with
higher horse power engine, electronically controlled suspension and engine management system and a changed front design. "

The tata model you are referring would be LPK 2518, which was launched few months back. In the initial batch it featured the rear axles with (.) symbol (similar to Leyland) but later it was modified to bore standard 'T' symbol. Initial investigation reveils that it is supplied by "Axles India" (TVS +Dana Spicer) to both Tata & Ashok leyland.

I beleive those axles on Tata LPK2516 are fully floating type whereas those on 2518 are semi floating type like Leylands. (further clarification welcome)

And on "Silencer pipe on left side - tata LPO1618"
Vharihar take a look at this...

IMO, volvo is making a blunder by dropping B7R name from its buses. B7R is a fairly well known name , built over a period of years & to me makes no sense to drop it. May be they could have given the new twin rear axle buses a new name , while persisting with B7Rs for the normal volvos.

Could you please explain the "new" name part for multi-axle buses?

It already is named B9R (9400 6x2) while the normal one is named B7R (9400).

It is hereby clarified that the above mentioned rear axles are supplied by "AAL" Automotive Axles Ltd a Meritor company. Tata LPK2516 uses MT26 108 axles whereas, Tata LPK2518 uses MT28 1495 type heavy duty axles.

Travelled by the Corona a/c sleeper today. The bus was comfortable, though engine sound did seep into the cabin a little more than the Volvo's.

Specs are also way behind Volvo 9400's : 160hp vs 290 hp, 535Nm vs 1200 Nm. No wonder people have observed that the Corona doesnt drive like a Volvo.

Unlike what I had thought, Corona is Not Ashok Leyland.

On the contrary, the official website of volvo bus just talks of 9400 intercity bus and 8400 city bus. No mention of B7R or B9R, Volvo 9400 intercity bus : Volvo Buses - India
