Re: Possible solution to electrifying commercial transport

This technology is simply impossible to be implemented in a country like ours. It requires a lot of prerequisites which are simply absent in our brethren.

For starters, we need people to follow traffic rules, which won't happen. Disciplined driving, sticking to lanes, not going off into small roads to avoid paying tolls etc.

And then the pilferage will be so rampant that the tax payer will end up losing a lot of money.

For our country, at this point, implementing things that require collective responsibility is a lost cause.

Sounds like the grid managers are not doing their jobs properly or need tools to help them do their jobs better. Better forecasting is required.

Renewable energy comes from a mix of wind and solar. When its excess, you want to store it somewhere and that's where batteries come in. Yes; you're going to need several footballs sized fields with batteries. The way it works is, when there are energy surges, you feed that stored energy back to the grid. I'll admit that I am making it sound easy and its not.

The way the world is warming is scary. It feels like there is no reliable weather pattern these days. It rains when it should not be raining. The ground temperature in Kuwait is >60 degrees! We simply cannot afford to keep these polluting coal plants running. It will take decades to balance it all between fossil fuel and renewable but we need to head down this road at some point.

Anything that can help reduce our methane and carbon footprint will go a long way for mother earth.

Re: Possible solution to electrifying commercial transport

Fantastic thread - IMHO any advancement of technology in automobile industry should first hit the commercial segment - don't really understand how passenger vehicle comforts are still not made to commercial vehicles.

With the carbon emissions the commercial vehicles contribute it will be a fantastic move, highways with dedicated lanes for heavy vehicles is a dream. Will free up space for others and make it even more safer.

Re: Possible solution to electrifying commercial transport

Our government is already thinking in these lines. They are planning to have dedicated lanes for EVs.

Another option is to power the dead axle in the tandem pair in existing diesel trucks, this co in US has started it.
