Karnataka RTC sacks bus driver for allowing a monkey to take the wheel

Hilarious video in the article. The monkey is squatting on the wheel and steering it with its butt and the driver is changing gears.

But I can see the driver holding the steering wheel in his right hand, and is even steering it. The monkey is just play acting on the wheel.

"Steering wheel play" of the bus is huge - the monkey is swinging left and right, but the bus is tracking straight.

Poor fellow?!

Agree that the driver seems to have some control on the steering wheel. But I don't empathize with him the least bit. As amusing as this is, it is utterly stupid and can have disastrous consequences. You're letting a monkey in on the driver's seat of a bus, with passengers, on a public road. We've enough monkeys on the road, don't need another one. What if the monkey bit/distracted the driver.

I'm glad this idiot was fired.

That is the correct action though. He was risking the life of 50+ passengers on a government bus. Imagine the liability for the government if something went wrong.

While he did retain control (mostly), his ability to take evasive action would be hampered when there is a monkey on the wheel. He would need 100% control in case of emergencies.

I am reading this post and trying to control my laughter thinking who is the monkey behind the wheel.

For all you know the monkey is the better driver vs the current bus drivers.

I am not sure how the monkey got into the bus in the first place. The driver seems to have maintained composure, what if the monkey had gone wild and attacked him had he tried to shoo it away. That would have resulted in a bigger catastrophe. However in my opinion, the best he could have done in this case was to slowly stop the bus, get rid of the monkey and then resume the journey.

This article has more details

https://www.timesnownews.com/the-buz...r-ksrtc/295126

The monkey is the pet of a teacher who is a regular passenger on the route. So the driver is probably familiar with it and this time it decided it would take a driving test.

None of the passengers have complained, ksrtc took notice after the viral video attracted the attention of their senior officials.

Re: Karnataka RTC sacks bus driver for allowing a monkey to take the wheel

I dont think Monkey is contributing anything to driving at all. Its sitting on the wheel which is being operated by the driver.
The driver is just removed from duty and he could be suspended later. Not dismissed ?
I see the use of words suspended and dismissed by news papers really misleading. When they translate that to regional languages its even more misleading

Re: Karnataka RTC sacks bus driver for allowing a monkey to take the wheel

Temporary loss of sanity on part of the driver. He got caught in the fun part of the episode but forgot to assess the impact in the larger context. He didn't consider the shocking effect it would have on the people not familiar with the setup (the setup being the monkey, teacher, daily passengers).
