Speed governors will no longer be mandatory for commercial vehicles

Government makes a U-turn on speed governors.

Quote:
did not reveal a timeline as to when the rule will be abolished. Meanwhile, commercial vehicles owners will have to continue using the device that limits the top speed of their vehicle
Quote:
According to Union Minister for Road and Highway Transport Nitin Gadkari, the government will abolish the mandatory requirement for commercial vehicles to have speed governors installed. Speed governors were mandated for all commercial vehicles in May last year, following an order from the Karnataka High Court. However, the move was met with criticism from the transport lobby, despite its safety benefits.

Re: Speed governors on all commercial vehicles from Oct 1, 2015

Oh, what was the speed governor doing in a vehicle all this while? Absolutely zero impact whether this is installed or scrapped! (other than during a visit to the RTO)!

With speed limiter warnings in private vehicles (thanks Maruti being such a goodie good for leading the way!!), its going to be fun! time to get roasted on the road!!

This is the biggest problem of this county. This constant yo-yoing is troubling more than the actual rule itself. My commercial car is due next month for fitness. I don't know if a governor is needed or, if I install one, will the rules be changed next month?

There were also reports of removal of permits for alternate fuel vehicles. Again... no clarity on it yet.

#End of rant.

Re: Speed governors will no longer be mandatory for commercial vehicles

The best example of such a misfit was noticed by me on the NEII or eastern peripheral expressway where the speed limits are mentioned at points as:
Trucks: 80 kmph
Buses: 100 kmph
Cars: 120 kmph
