Mahindra Marine, the Indian conglomerate's boat making division, has unveiled a new product in its lineup - the Odyssea 55. Part of the Mahindra Odyssea designer series of speed boats, the Odyssea 55 luxury yacht is the company's flagship offering and comes with various customization options.

True to its name, the new Mahindra yacht is 55-feet (16.8 m) long, with a 13 feet (4.0 m) beam. A boat's beam is its width at the widest point, measured at the waterline, i.e., the line where the hull meets the surface of the water.

It is powered by twin-434 BHP Yanmar engines that supply power to a shaft propulsion system sourced from Michigan Marine. The Odyssea 55 boasts of a top speed of 26 knots, which equates to around 48 Km/h.

Being a luxury yacht, the Mahindra Odyssea 55 comes with a fully air-conditioned master cabin, separate crew cabin, day saloon, generator power back-up and sun beds. It is also equipped with solar panels for charging the electronic system of the boat when at sea. The crew cabin is located in the lower deck and can house 4 persons.

The Odyssea 55 will be the fourth boat in Mahindra's luxury yacht portfolio, after the Odyssea 22, Odyssea 33 and Odyssea 35. The company also manufactures commercial boats, patrol boats and defense boats.

Any idea on, Is Mahindra Marine like the Commercial vehicle division or a profit making one?

Nice looking boat. Never heard of these before.
I am very much into boating and although I don’t own currently, I will most definetly in the not so distant future.

Three weeks ago I travelled to Portsmouth to look at a boat.
I’ve just visited the London Excel boat show, next week the boat show in Dusseldorf, Germany. I have been visiting several European boat yards. I’m looking for something in 36-44 foot range. It’s more or less down to three manufactures, Hardy Marines, Botnia and North Line.

I’m a little surprised about this boat because during all my travel in India I have never come across any sort of leisure boating at all. Are there any leisure boat marina’s in India?

There is at least one that I know of. This one is in Kochi. Its' located in Bolgatty island.

Odyssea 22, Odyssea 33 and Odyssea 35 hardly qualify as luxury yachts, they're more like water taxis. The fit & finish on these boats left a LOT to be desired. I know this because I used to work with a company very closely associated with Sale & After sales of these boats, along with other actual luxury yachts.

There's only one Marina, down south in Kochi but nothing in Mumbai. Govt. of Maharashtra has been planning for donkey's ages but nothing has moved forward. I have been hearing of a marina coming up near Mumbai port for more than 5yrs now. However, there are a handful of luxury yachts, Azimut, Ferretti, Lagoon etc moored at Gateway of India in Mumbai. I was very closely associated with Azimut & was amazed at the finesse & styling of those yachts. Italians really know a thing or two about designs!

I think it's just presence in the segment for the sake of diversification. Turnover was barely 6 crores last year, with a loss of almost 2 crores.
